Only go to Shirley if you enjoy sitting in a chair while being belittled and degrated. I had been going to Shirley throughout high school and college. I went natural so i dont really go to hair salons anymore. Its unfortunate that Shirley is a waste of true talent. I dont understand why shes so disrespectful to her customers-the backhanded comments and insults really need to stop. My mother and one of my friends stopped going to her because of her nasty attitude. If you do go to her, bring your headphones. That woman needs to go to therapy, not just church.

I was excited for my consult with Shirley for highlights. Their website advertised a summer special $350 inclusive of highlights and toner. I arrived at 7:20am for my 7:30am appointment. After waiting over 45 minutes I have a 3 min consult. I show her what I'm looking for, she ask if my hair is colored already, and commented that my hair looks healthy. We go up front schedule a date and she prices everything out. $850!!!! To which I say, Im sorry I was interested in your summer special, to which she says there isn't one. Or she's not aware of one. But if I can bring in a picture she would honor it. Then she says my 3 min consult would be $55. I was never told there would be a cost. Let alone such a high cost. I was expecting $25 at most. I will not go back, waste of time, the salon looks mediocre at best. For these prices this really needs to be a more professional, transparent experience.

Strands was recommend to me by a neighbor. Someone by the name of Kim did my hair back in early November. She totally damaged my hair, by leaving toner on it for too long. I normally wear my hair natural, but I let her wet set it with soft rods to try something different. My hair was a hot mess when I left the salon and I had to wash and deep condition it upon returning home as it felt hard and damaged. Her price for the bad job she did on my hair, a whopping $500!!!! I was to shocked to even respond. I had to charge the cost to my credit card. I'm still kicking myself for not inquiring about the prices before hand. My air started breaking off a few weeks after Melanie did my hair. I will never return to this shop. Too much money for terrible service. Beware people!

SHIRLEY IS A HAIR DOCTOR. I'll start there. I have naturally curly hair and didn't have any color or processing until about 3 weeks ago. I initially got it dyed then went back 2 weeks later for highlights. THEY WERE HORRIBLE, to say the least. It looked patchy and streaky. I looked akin to a zebra, to be completely honest. The light brown/blonde highlights were put in on a Tuesday and I knew immediately I had to get it fixed. Shirley kindly booked me for color correction on Thursday evening. I had a pleasant experience with the staff. I was greeted when I walked in and was reassured that Shirley would take care of me. I was weary about putting any more color in my hair because, at the end of the day, I was concerned about preserving my hair texture. She reassured me that the color she would use to fix it would be safe for my hair in the state it was in. She was able to dye my hair back to a natural chocolate brown and I am completely happy with her, the staff, and the products she uses. By the way, my natural curls are still intact and just about in their natural state. I give her 5 stars because of the quality hair products and coloring ability. She was also very warm and was realistic about her thoughts on my hair. She knows what she is doing and you will not be disappointed with your hair.
