Wheaton Mall has a small, almost hidden section, where independent businesses operate. Ruby has such a space. She did an excellent job, cutting my hair, but most appreciated was that she explained how she helps other customers go gray. although that was my first visit, it won't be my last.
Ruby is absolutely incredible! She's been cutting my husband's (unruly, difficult, wavy/curly with several cowlicks!) and my (very straight and slippery) hair since we moved here almost 5 years ago, and I've recommended her to every friend who's moved to the area. (My friends' younger sister, who lives over an hour away, scheduled a haircut with Ruby to coincide with a visit to see us because she trusted Ruby to give her a good pixie cut since she's seen the results on her sisters' hair.) She could honestly be charging way more for her services and doing the Washington bigwigs' hair, but her prices are very affordable and she's incredibly talented. Ruby has been very supportive of my family's COVID precautions too; she always masks during our appointments, and when we told her we want to have her give our baby his first haircut, she suggested we can come in for an appointment first thing in the morning to make sure he's breathing the cleanest air possible since he's not old enough yet to wear his own mask. She's basically part of our family now, and I would recommend Ruby's Hair Design to literally anyone (just make sure to treat her extra well please!) Also: she worked absolute wonders on my postpartum hair (iykyk)
This hair stylist is difficult to contact. I reached out multiple times over a long period of time. When I did get in contact she stated her prices went up, but did not disclose the price. She was also unwilling to schedule an appointment.
I have been going to Ruby since 2019, and I am SO glad I found her ! I have wavy/curly hair and it's so hard to find people who know what to do with that. I like to get my hair cut wet (not dry like a traditional "curly cut") and she accounts for shrinkage really well! I've loved every single haircut I've gotten from Ruby. Her services are also super affordable too.
