salon Bartholomew in Richmond, VA

As kind and charismatic as Elizabeth is, I don't recommend her if you have a very specific style in mind. As in, if you show her pics of the style you want, she essentially ignores it and satisfies her own agenda. I didn't complain the first two times I saw her because my hairstyle turned out OK, albeit very sticky and far from what I had requested. My mistake was in expecting that Elizabeth would actually give me the long pixie cut I really wanted on my third visit. I showed her the photo I had saved on Pinterest. Unfortunately, I ended up with more of a bowl/ mushroom cut than a pixie cut; in fact, I looked like a redheaded Moe from The Three Stooges. Elizabeth assured me that it would look better once I washed it and my natural wave had a chance to flourish but to be honest, I hated this cut until it had grown out for 8 weeks. The salon is lovely, clean, and conveniently located but I should have learned my lesson the first two visits. EDIT: As my new stylist has pointed out, you should leave a hair salon feeling like a million bucks. NOT that you have to go home, wash your hair, spray a bunch of crap into it, and hope that the cut will look halfway decent afterwards. Oh, and grow out for 2 months. Still pissed that I tipped so well. Too many years of working as a server, I suppose.

I chose this salon b/c it is 5 blocks from my house. When I walked in, I was immediately addressed and given a handshake by the owner. Elizabeth was my stylist. Before the session, I got a history of the salon, and a guided tour! I really got a sense of pride and that made me feel really good and at home. Elizabeth was super attentive, listened to exactly what I wanted, and I got a fantastic cut and style. I know this because my Mother LOVED it. Friendly and professional all in one. I'm definitely going back.

Karen was just perfect! I very rarely review, but I was treated exceptionally well and she deserves 5 stars!!

Jessie used to work here...and she is the BEST!!!! She now works at Hair Theater... Thankfully I was able to find her and followed her to hair theater. She is amazing...friendly and always so sweet. She was so warm to me.. The 3 stars rating is because the times that I have gone there, apart from Jessie, no one else was really nice or friendly..and came across uptight. Jessie on the other hand is warm, personable and great to talk to...Hair Theater is my go-to salon!!

I had Karen working on my hair. She was more than informative! She really let me feel at ease with everything she was saying, suggesting and telling me about my hair. She spend a solid 30 minutes consulting me about my hair, playing with it, feeling it, asking what I liked about it, what I didn't like, what I wanted to do, how I saw my hair in 6 months etc. Very thorough and I loved every second of it. She told me step by step what she was going to do next and the products that she was using. There was no trying to sell me on the products either. I highly recommend the entire Salon! Jessica at the front desk might be the sweetest person I have ever met. Leaving I was even given samples of products that were used on me, for me to try at home without the commitment of buying first. Awesome experience! I found my new salon!
