Root and Mane in Silver Spring, MD

I went in for a tape in extensions and asked for a long style and a middle part. This is the final cut.....I did not see how bad the cut was before leaving because of the loose curls/bump at the end, but it was very evident once I start to comb through the hair once I got home. My head start pounding, so I take a look....Once parting through the hair we noticed that tape ins were improperly placed directly on the skin of the scalp, in no organized method, which resulted in major hair damage and bleeding patches throughout my scalp. The tape ins started to come out with my skin and hair follicles attached. Despite the horrible cut and hair damage, I experienced the worse shampoo I've ever had. I actually had to stop her in the middle of the shampoo and ask her to stop rubbing and scrubbing so hard because it really felt as if she was scrubbing every follicle out of my head. It's gets worse.....I won't get into all the details but please be sure to ask this woman about the fees associated with purchasing hair from her "vendor." I was told the hair cost one price but when the receipt was sent to me, it showed that the hair was in fact half the price she actually took from me. When confronted she basically told me that I should be okay with a 50% mark up because she needed to make a profit and most salons do the same things. Oh and I did my research on this woman....I normally don't like to leave negative reviews but I have tried speaking to this woman amicably for weeks, and I still have no resolve. Now she's decided to "not engage with me" because she owes me "no clarification." I wouldn't want any one to experience this so I thought I'd share.

I love Iye!!! My blowout was STUNNING and lasted through the blood, sweat, and tears of a wedding dance floor. I also just had a blast hanging and chatting with Iye while she worked. Her prices are affordable, the quality is REMARKABLE, and she offers so many different services. Iye also kept her mask on the whole time which was a nice bonus for me. I might just have to get myself invited to a black tie event just so I can get another blowout! The online scheduling system is another added bonus to make your appointment with ease.

Awesome customer service and very friendly owner. The owner's happy attitude and kind demeanor makes the time that you spend getting your hair braided an enjoyable experience.

I am SO pleased with my experience with Iye at Root and Mane!!!!! We clicked instantly, she is so down to earth, she did an Amazing job with my hair and got it exactly how I wanted or better!!!! She is very thorough yet quick. I mean she really got it gorgeous, silky, and straight yet with some body! She definitely knows what she's doing and is very knowledgeable on hair and all kinds of hair not just natural African American hair! She has her own style and ways which is very refreshing! And she even got alll of my hairs around my hairline!!! There's just so much about my first experience that really impressed me and more and I can say that I have found my new hair dresser!!!! :-D

My hair has thrived in Iye's care. She's extremely gentle and knowledgeable about natural hair. I've had many experiences with stylists that are rough and not interested in nurturing your natural hair. I appreciate that she takes her time and always uses quality products in my hair. I typically wear weaves and extensions but I'm now able to embrace my healthy hair.
