ZKU Salon in Summit, NJ

Beware of hidden fees! When you go to checkout they tack $5.00 on to your bill. When asked what this goes towards they now call it " green recycling " fee. When I explained I don't choose to pay for that they tell you it's not a choice . Really??? Where is my $5.00 going ? It used to be called " credit card processing fees" Completely outrageous. If anyone wants to DM me I can give you a list of very high end salons that charge the same pricing as Zoku ,without extra " fees" going into someone's pocket . I 'd rather give my stylist the extra $5.00. Also if you need a blow out after your color go around the corner to Zana or Drybar . $45.00 as opposed to $80.00 or $100.00!! Outrageous .

I spoke with Zoku and was assured they had an expert on cutting curly hair & recommended Jackie. My hair is curly but I wear it blown out in a voluminous long layered style. I have always gotten compliments on my cut and style & am very good with styling it. Jackie's price for a cut is $155. I figured for that price it would have to look good. This is hard to write because Jackie was very nice, but, I want to warn others as I wish someone had warned me. The haircut I got is horrifying, it's nothing like the pictures I showed her or the style I had going in. She actually removed an entire panel of hair in the middle of my head behind my ear- lopped off at least 5" and there is a "hole" where I once had hair. It is absolutely hideous and will take a year to grow out. Everyday I have to wake up and look at it I'm sick to my stomach. I txtd Jackie the next day and she was nice and offered to tweek the cut but there's nothing to tweek, my layers were destroyed. I don't even have a style now- it looks like someone took a scissor & just cut out chunks randomly around my head. I'm embarrassed to go out and be seen in public. After telling a few other women what happened to me, another woman actually said she had her layers ruined there too. Do your research before going to this salon. I am 52 years old and sadly, this is the absolute worst haircut I have ever had in my life. UPDATE: since writing this I have received a full refund for my haircut. They were very nice about offering it after I expressed how upset and disappointed I was with the cut.

This is the best Salon I have ever been to. Christine cuts hair with great talent. All the colorists are excellent and it doesn't matter which one you choose. When are you guys opening up? I'm desperate!

Where do I start? Firstly, on my way to the salon I received a phone call from their receptionist letting me know that the woman doing my hair was going to be late. It's funny how salons can charge you a fee if you cancel within a specific time, but when they waste your time there's nothing to be said about it. This was really only a a small annoyance, rather than anything. This was my first time at the salon, and I was there to get a single process done, just to dye my grays. Keep in mind, the prices at this salon are higher than average salons which is why I picked them. Higher prices usually come with higher standards of quality service & customer service. In the beginning I didn't mind my experience at all. The assistant was nice, and the late color specialist was ok, or at least I thought. Once the assistant was done washing out my hair, she put me in the basement to dry my own hair. I was so confused by this.. but apparently there's only 2 options. You a) do it yourself or b) pay additional $$ ($40) for blow drying your hair. Ok, is this Supercuts?! I can expect additional pricing for blow drying at a cheap place but for prices to be well above the normal, it should come with the full package. You can bring tea/coffee to your clients but you can't blow dry hair? You're a hair salon!! I expected an "upscale" (as they'd like to present themselves) hair salon to be more catering/accommodating to their customers, but clearly this was not the case. I'm originally from Manhattan (which higher prices are expected) but the prices at this salon (which is in jersey) is ridiculous for the kind of treatment you get in return. The additional $$ turned me off big time. I opted to have someone blow dry my hair, and how I wish I did it myself. The guy made me look like a beauty queen contestant at the end of it... and then walked me out insulting the hair products I used at home bc he was trying to sell me theirs. Talk about great customer service. He was rude and unprofessional. The receptionist noticed the disgust look on my face that she went about trying to explain what he "meant to say". I'm not stupid. To top it off, they don't take tip on your card. With prices like that, who carries that much cash for tip?! What year are we in? All things I'd expect fr a cheaper salon. This salon cares nothing about the client, isn't accommodating at all, the staff are rude and stuck up, and they literally scream out begging for every dollar that you have. I'm honestly stunned I wasn't charged for the tea I was given at the beginning of my visit. Not to mention, the next day I noticed that my grays were not even dyed!!!!!!!!!!!! I still have so many grays and out 165 dollars. Don't book from here, you'd prob get a better experience at Supercuts.

Love Zoku Salon, is a "NYC salon" llocated in Summit, NJ!! Front desk staff very professional and kind, always positive and friendly!! Every colorist is superb from Zoe, Isaac, AJ and the rest!! Christine goes above and beyond in her customer service and expertise, will never go elsewhere!! Love this salon and highly recommend!!!
