Y Salon & Spa in San Mateo, CA

I have visited this salon several times for haircuts and treatments, and I have always had a great experience. The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The salon is spotless, which is a plus point for me. I usually go to James or Phillips for my haircuts, and they never disappoint me. During my last visit, James did my haircut, and he did an excellent job. He is a perfectionist and provides great advice on maintaining healthy hair at home. When I showed him a picture of what I wanted, he was honest and suggested what would work best for my hair type. Similarly, when I had my haircut with Phillips, he paid attention to the details and did an amazing job. I trust both of them completely with my hair, and I always leave the salon feeling happy and satisfied. Even though I am not good at scheduling appointments, the salon always accommodates me, which is very convenient.

Got the luxury head spa from Luisa. Was very thorough and relaxing. Left feeling great and refreshed!

I was searching for a new person to get a dip manicure from and Noa at Y Salon came recommended. I called and was able to get a same day appointment, which was a big plus. Noa was very sweet and did such a great job on my nails. I would say this is the best my nails have looked. I will be returning. Thank you!

The scalp treatment from Tracy was seriously life changing and so affordable!! Worth the drive from SF- I'll definitely be back!!

UPDATE: the management has been very sincere in trying to rectify the situation. DO NOT GET A KERATIN HERE. This is only for the keratin treatment. I've had lovely colorists who have done amazing things. I've been getting keratins for over 10 years and know what it's supposed to look like and how to care for it properly. There were 2 people working on me who didn't speak English and each spoke a different language so communication was stressful. I saw them applying using a small treatment bottle that was for a hair mask. When I stopped them the owner said they only use those bottles for application and showed me a bottle of 'keratin' she said was in the treatment bottle. It all felt off. I googled the brand of keratin she 'gets from a friend' and couldn't find the brand anywhere online. I tried to trust the process even when they used the hot iron through my hair like 20 times in places. When I walked out it looked great. I was sort of ashamed for making a big deal. 3 days later I finally rinsed it out and it was NOT a keratin treatment. My hair wasn't straight and it wasn't soft and shiny. It was brittle and had split ends. It was a waste of $300. I didn't contact the salon because honestly I didn't trust the owner since she tried so hard to tell me it was fine and made me feel like I was crazy. I was back in there getting color and overheard another woman complaining about her treatment of keratin and Japanese straightening. Which was costing her $500 and she had fine hair. In what world you would need keratin AND Japanese straightening I don't know. The customer was concerned because the treatment happened quickly. She asked and again the employee couldn't understand English and someone finally told her they did the keratin and the Japanese straightening together. Come on. She kept pushing back and the owner kept telling her it was done right. After more pressure and the owner speaking to the employee in their language she said they did they keratin and not the Japanese straightening. SO SHADY. The owner must have a different definition of what a keratin treatment is. Looks like it's a deep conditioner to her.
