XL Salon in San Mateo, CA

All the hair dressers have gone. The owner, George, is now on his own in Burlingame. No reason to go back. George may be talented, but he is unpleasant bordering on arrogant. I've moved on.

I saw George and although he has some good qualities, I wouldn't go back to him for a haircut. I was hoping to get a fresh, updated look but received a boring, dull cut. Oh my goodness. I guess I have to keep going to the City for a more contemporary look. I wish him well and I'm sure other people are thrilled with him but he wasn't for me.

I love Emi! She's so sweet and always knows exactly what to do with my fine, lifeless hair. I have been trying to grow it out for a while now and have been seeing her every 8 weeks just to clean up the ends and this is the longest my hair has been in years! She also does my highlights with a very gentle formula. It brightens up my dull dark blonde hair and gives it incredible shine without frying it. She also manages to get it to have volume and be super straight with her awesome blow drying technique! So happy i found her!

I started going to XL in November of 2011 to see George, and my hair has never looked better. George is a true professional and always makes my time in his salon relaxing and fun. His entire staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, It's a wonderful environment. I can't say enough good things about George, his staff, and the entire XL experience.

Getting a haircut is an act of faith. I avoid haircuts because of stress and disappointment of bad haircuts. My fine gray hair was getting long, limp and stringy, no shape at all. My glamorous and classy mother recommended XL salon. The salon is beautiful, fragrant, clean and professional. I had my hair cut by George. George gets 5 gleaming stars: 1* for honesty and directness in the consultation about what kind of haircut would work (or not) with my straight, graying, dry and superfine fine hair... and for calling my hair "soft and silky" in the process. 2* for for being on the the pulse of current hair cutting styles and techniques. After listening to my desires for a hairstyle George's prescription was a shoulder length style with long layers and framing around the face. 3* for delivery of a great hair cut and style. My formerly stringy, dun locks now shine, curl and bounce. Praise be to God. It really is a miracle. 4* for clear instructions and product guidance to reproduce the hairstyle myself (which I was able to do without a lot of work or time). 5* for relaxed flow of the haircutting process: There was no pulling or tugging of my hair, no empty small talk. No sudden movements. George was so gentle and precise, combed and glided around the chair in a beautiful and relaxing flow. Even his scissors snipped smoothly, calmly, quietly, gracefully.
