Ever been denied service at a mechanic because you are a woman? How about when calling a hair salon based on the tone of your voice? I was an existing customer at this hair salon and called to make another balayage appointment. Without giving my name or any other personal information, I was informed by the receptionist that they only do "women's" color and extensions in a snarky tone. Apparently, many of their stylists left since last November, including the one I have been seeing, and they got together and decided they will be denying service to anyone they don't believe to be a "woman". Trans, non-binary, or just a woman with a deeper voice? The reception staff here will determine your gender for you here. By the way, since 1964, this is completely illegal. You can not deny service based on sex, race or religion as stated in Title VII of The Civil Rights Act. If you are actually denied service based on sex, I advise you to seek legal counsel.
All of the online reviews are absolutely amazing, the photos online were also good. I was very excited to try this salon. There was just one thing no one mentioned, if you are a GUY, you will not be able to schedule an appointment here. I called last week to schedule an appointment, the receptionist explained to me that they did not do men's hair styles. I told her that fine cause I definitely was not wanting a men's hair style. She then explains to me that they don't cut men's hair in general. I was left dumbfounded. I thought maybe I didn't hear her right so I asked her again and she again told me they will not cut a man's hair. I have never experienced sexual discrimination before, and I never expected to in 2023.
I went in for a consultation that costs $60 with the owner, Davita. I was quoted $3450 and I would have to pay $1500 deposit to secure the appointment to get my haircolor, treatments, and for 2 rows of sew-in extensions. Wefts not even single strand extensions. I was shocked. I was definitely expecting it to be closer to 2k because her work on IG looked great. I even drove almost an hour from Uptown where I live.
I asked all my hairstylist friends in LA if this price was normal. They all said "hell no!". I honestly think she either didn't know how to do my hair or she just didn't want to do it.
Beware guys. I don't know if you'll get what you pay for. Beverly Hills prices in Waxhaw. Lmao.
I was looking forward to going to The Parlor and trying it out. I have no complaints about the place besides not getting the hair service I wanted. I called back to see if I can get it fixed to my satisfaction and for the amount of money I spent. I would think they would understand and fix a customer that's unsatisfied. However after calling the owner to schedule to fix my hair, they insisted that the job was done well and if I wanted it redone I'd have to pay again. Very disappointed with the outcome and my hair with 5 different tones of blonde and stained on my face framing pieces.
I won't let anyone else touch my hair. Abby does an amazing job. Plus this place is so nice. Very clean and very cozy.
There's no denying that balayage is having a moment. This modern hair coloring technique has taken the beauty world by storm, and it's easy to see why. Balayage is a French word meaning "to sweep" or "to paint", and that's exactly what the colorist does.
