Southern Roots Hair Studio in Lynchburg, VA

WARNING - I have never taken the time to review but feel that in regards to this so called hair salon, others need to be cautioned. I had an appointment at the Lotus Beauty Bar on 09.15.23 and I truly believe that not only is this one of the dirtiest salons in existence but the guy who cut my hair is certainly not a trained/educated stylist and has no idea what he's doing. I realized this when he began washing my hair and really didn't know how to even do that properly. Instead of walking out with wet hair and just to make sure I wasn't judging too quickly, I decided to stay and simply stated that all I wanted was about an inch trimmed off of my ends and my bangs trimmed. (I had intended on getting a completely new style but I'm sooooo glad that I realized early on that this salon and Mr. S. Dunn are a farce). He had no clue as to what he was doing. He trimmed maybe a few dead ends in the back and had no idea how to cut bangs. He had no idea how to blow dry my hair and again just to see what he could or couldn't do, when he offered to curl my hair, I let him and it was almost sad to watch. I'm almost certain that he doesn't have any training and probably isn't licensed to do hair and again, I have to mention that the salon is filthy and I swear I believe they're probably pretending to be a licensed salon. I have rather long hair so I was able to withstand the lack of talent and skill without any huge repercussions in regards to damage to my hair but I fear others haven't been so lucky. D.M.

I don't like to leave bad reviews, but my recent experience at The Lotus Beauty Bar left me very upset, especially considering this is the second time I have not had the best experience there (the first time was about 2 yrs ago when it was under a different business name - Southern Roots - and I had no idea it was the same place. I got very choppy layers that looked like chunks were taken out that time). This time I went in for a trim. I asked for 3 inches to be trimmed and very light, long layers. One and half hours later I was about 7-8 total inches shorter, crooked and butchered. She told me that the cut was not even and in order to fix my trim would "just a little shorter than I asked for". Well, she apparently kept cutting it crooked because it ended up being at least 4 inches shorter than I requested. It is still crooked and choppy, and I cannot get it fixed without basically getting a bob cut, so it will now take me over a year to get it to a decent length again where it can be fixed. That is not acceptable and I am quite upset and appalled that she screwed up that badly. And then still requested payment and no apologies. Needless to say I will never return nor recommend The Lotus Beauty Bar. The young lady who cut my hair was kind, but clearly not experienced and there was no one else in the salon to help.
