Was the worst hair weave I've ever had lasted three days just was a complete $400 disappointment. Never go to there!!!

I recently relocated here to RVA. Salon Chanterre was referred to me. After reading many of the reviews posted on Yelp and Salon Chanterre's website, an appointment with Shiri was booked for a conditioning treatment, trim, and natural style (twistout). Upon arrival, Shiri and the other ladies in the salon were very welcoming & professional. My wait was minimum before being called to Shiri's chair, which she confirmed getting a conditioning treatment would be most beneficial. After being shampooed and receiving conditioning treatment (using steam), I could feel a great difference in my natural hair . Overall, I was very satisfied with my salon experience and my twistout turned out way better than when I do it at home. My hair looked much healthier which is important to me. Prior to leaving the salon I booked my second appointment for two weeks later.

I am trying to make this review as fair as I can. I would first like to say that my daughter's hair was beautiful. No complaints about the look of the style she got. But the experience as a first time customer was not the best. I don't even actually have a complaint about the salon, but I was not happy with the stylist. My child's appointment was at 2:30pm. Now I'm always early so I don't really expect everyone else to operate like that.. but she was over 30 minutes late. Thankfully someone else kindly stepped in to at least shampoo and condition my daughter's hair. So the stylist comes and I tell her that i wanted cornrows braided up into a ponytail with the curls at the end instead of beads. She looked at me like I asked her to change my child's whole identity. Other staff members attempted to help me explain what I wanted. Ok. So she started the first braid and I said that I didn't want them to be that small but she said that they should be small. I forgot to even mention the fact that when you book online it doesn't tell you that hair is not included. I can take part of the blame for that because I could have asked. But moving on.. The braiding is going and I noticed that my child was crying. I know this doesn't sound atypical, but she isn't tender headed and isn't aversive to getting her hair done. And she was trying to hide the fact that she was crying. This was about 3 hours into the braiding on a 7 year old with no break. So i asked her what was wrong and she said it was too tight. I told the stylist and she proceeded to tell me that her neck was hurting and that it was not right and that she would be fine. So I'm like she is old enough to say and know if her neck was hurting or if she was braiding too tight. She continues to braid the same way. So then when she is finally done, she braided the ends to dip them. Once again her coworkers attempted to intervene and say, "Hey, girl...that's gonna make crinkles not curls. Maybe you wanna use a rod." Does she listen? No. She proceeds to continue doing whatever she wanted to do until someone else came over and put the rod in. At this point I'm just ready to go. So I ended up paying 20 dollars more than the advertised price because this lady decided to do what she wanted and ignore just about every suggestion given by myself and her coworkers. I asked her to make the braids shorter.. nope. She didn't want to do that either. I wished I had picked someone else. I really also think that I would have a better experience with another stylist who had braided two children (beautifully might I add) in the time I was there with my one. So while I would like to give the salon another chance because I really want the other stylist to do her hair, I just can't do it. What I would like to encourage is to listen to the client. You might not like the style that the client wants, and as the professional, suggestions are certainly appropriate, but the client is paying to come in and get what they ask for, not what you want! And there is no reason to use vice grips on a 7 year olds head. If a client tells you they are hurting.. how about just believing them??!! It's not your head so you wouldn't know!! Again the style was pretty but not worth the experience.

I live in the DC area, but have been making the drive to Richmond to see Sherri since 2012 for sew-in extensions. The quality and expertise are worth the commute. Most recently, Sherri did my hair before I left for my destination wedding in Jamaica. She had another girl in the studio that she was teaching her technique to. Hearing her explain her method made me realize just how knowledgeable Sherri was, and why my extensions always look most natural when she does them. She also provides great advice / general knowledge on natural hair care, which has been a huge help as I am in the process of transitioning. I highly recommend her!

Got a relaxer and color at this appointment.....fabulous job as usual! I started going to Cheri some years ago to repair my broken-off, brittle hair from home processing. I have had natural hair, relaxer, color, sew-in, and braids at various times from Cheri. My hair was damaged when I started, but now very healthy after consistent visits. Relaxing environment and knowledgable stylist. I would recommend (and have recommended) this salon to others. Appointments fill up, so book ahead of time.
