Do not go here unless you want to be charged 5x the normal price of what you usually pay to get your hair done. I'm originally from New Jersey and would get my hair cut, styled, gloss, toned, and my front pieces bleached. I never paid more than $200 to get it done. I came here because I wanted to give it a try. I explained what I wanted to the stylist and showed her pictures. She bleached my two front pieces (which by the way needed 2 extra bowls of bleach????), partially dyed the rest of my hair, and trimmed it. It was almost closing so I told her it was fine to not blow it out as I was just going home and going to bed. When it came time to cut my hair, she asked me "what would you like in your hair?" Me being me, "whatever you usually put in peoples hair?" I know, maybe people are specific about what they want, but she ended up not putting anything in it?? Then when it came time to leave, she asked me what kind of oils I had at home to oil the two front pieces when I got home. Why didn't she oil them at the salon then? I ended up paying $500, (for extra bowls of bleach, cut, ,tone and dyed) for this. And then because I got my hair partially dyed black with a blue tint, my two blonde pieces ended up turning a light blue. The whole entire experience was just uncomfortable.
I've been 3 times to this salon and only one out of my 3 experiences well---the other two were HORRIBLE. The first time I went to get a haircut and explained what I wanted (I couldn't have been clearer) and she basically gave me exactly what I said I DIDN'T want. I looked like a dog, no joke. They were nice enough to have me come back in to see if there was anything that could be done to remedy it, but because so much damage had already been done, it was only marginally better. I liked this new stylist enough that I thought it would be worth going back for another haircut a year later and asking for him, specifically. This was a decent haircut, and at the appointment we talked about how I wanted to come back in to get highlights done. He advised me to book the "full highlights" based on what I had said, and even though I don't normally spend quite that much on my hair, I decided it was worth booking. So I came back a few weeks later to see him again for my highlights and he gave me this whole shpeal on how actually instead of costing $350 or whatever the normal price for full highlights would be, it would actually cost over $500 and that would only cover part of my hair, not even the full highlights!!! He said that I should have scheduled a "highlight consultation" even though I had just been in a couple weeks before to get my haircut and we had discussed it then. It made absolutely no sense, because while my hair's not thin, it's also not especially thick and it goes just a couple of inches below my shoulders. I had plans to go away soon, so it was stressful to find someone else in time, but luckily, I found another place who did the job for $200---over $300 less than Milk & Honey had quoted me for and they did a good job! Overall, my experience with this salon is over-priced, under-delivered. They were full of excuses and I found it pretty frustrating dealing with them.
It takes a leap of faith to try a new hair salon and stylist for me and Danielle delivered! I went recently for a trim and today for highlights. Danielle is very knowledgeable about all things hair and helped me brainstorm and solve my own personal hair concerns. The salon is very clean and bright with large windows facing Lady Bird Lake and the sidewalk in front- good viewing to pass the time. The front desk staff is very friendly and welcoming. The prices tend to be on the higher end for Austin but within the range of other salons and it's conveniently located downtown in the 2nd St district. Glad I tried!
Got my haircut here while on vacation and was a great experience! Didn't have to wait at all when I walked in for my appointment.
Due to COVID, I haven't been getting pedicures as often as I normally do. I had one with Jessica and she did an amazing job. She also gave me very good advice on how to maintain my feet between pedicures - some thing no other manicurist has ever done. I've already booked my appointment for next month. The spa is clean and nicely appointed, masks are required and I felt Covid-safe. Would definitely recommend!
