Rock's Bar and Hair Shop in Durham, NC

​ Just had a horrible experience. I never would have thought I would have been treated as poorly as I was today. Due to traffic and construction near the area I was 5 minute late and received a call letting me know that I was 10 minutes late and that they would not be able to take care of me. I let the caller know that my appointment was for 4:25 p.m. and when I looked at the clock it was 4:30 p.m. She said to come inside and we'll take care of you. I got my parking ticket and went. I was approximately 8 minutes late and​ was informed that there wasn't enough time for me. I have a med beard and I'm bald! I kindly let the lady know that I wasn't going to return. Her response was fair and professional. If you want a pseudo-masculine ​establishment that is on the higher end of the price sheet, (but you get a free beer) then this place might be for you. Just come ahead of time. I mean, I've been going for three years and had go wait almost every time but...

I have now had 4-5 haircuts and beard "sculpts" at Rocks, as well as taken my 14yo son a few times. It's a great atmosphere, there are several talented stylists, but the scheduling is less than perfect.

I have gotten haircuts and beard sculpts from Jennifer and Scott, and a beard sculpt from Lala.

Jennifer is 5/5 with trimmers, and her low fade and fade into a beard was exceptional. My son's hair is med-long and she did a great scissor cut on him. Scott gave me the best beard trim I've had, and his scissor work is exceptional for shorter styles.

I had a beard sculpt with Jennifer swapped to Lala and I wasn't unhappy, but next time I will reschedule to stay with a stylist I feel is more exceptional in the beard work.

This is a 4/5 rating purely because of the scheduling.

I've had 4-5 appointments and I've been rescheduled 3 times. They've done their best to accommodate, but that's a high rate. It's also difficult to book with the better stylists, even booking 3-4 weeks out you can run into very limited slots.

It's too big of a shop to ensure that all stylists are top talent in all skillsets (beards, fades, scissors) so for me the deduction is that inconsistency combined with less than perfect scheduling.

Great place! Mel did a great job. One of the best haircuts I've ever had! The free beer doesn't hurt either!

New to Rock's, I came on the first day Tony Simmons was joining the crew there.  Great guy, music aficionado, we talked esoteric bands for an hour  while I got a simple haircut and detailed beard cut.  Liked Rock's, liked Tony, great haircut, will repeat.  Next time I will schedule for the afternoon so it feels like a good time to have a beer too.

April figured out exactly what I wanted and needed when coming to my hair style from asking about my career and fully understanding my hair growth patterns and feel. As a male it can be tough to find a quality cut. But this is the place. Came in visiting from California and will be back here for sure again. All the stylists working there were doing incredible work too while I was there
