Hot Nails and Spa in DeSoto, TX

I made an appointment for my husband and myself. We get there, and we're waiting, which isn't a problem because we were a few minutes late. I am then approached, and told that our services would be even later because a lady came in, and she's sick, and they are going to get her done, so she can go. Wait, what? First of all, we must wear masks for safety to lessen the chances of COVID-19 transmission, but yet you're allowing a sick woman that could actually have COVID to stay at the shop to potentially spread it, and take our appointed times. Got it! You'd rather risk the health of all of the rest of your customers and staff, and let a lot of money that we spend every time we walk through the door go for one person. I don't know what's going on with Hot Nails & Spa. I've been a customer for years. I haven't seen Nickie. One of the last times I asked about her they told me she was still sick. I last saw her mom, and one of the old staff that same day I was told that. Every one working in there is new. If the business has been sold, say that. Don't try to deceive Nickie's clientele into continuing to come here.

Let me preface this by saying I did not have any services done. It is 5:56pm and they close at 7:30pm. I strictly came because of the mass amount of good reviews. As soon as I walked in the woman greeted me and asked what service I wanted. I told her I wanted a pedicure. She said she was sorry but they were short handed and couldn't do it for me today. She said I can come back tomorrow and asked what time I wanted to come. I understand being short staffed as most businesses currently are however, at this point in the day if you know you cannot accommodate anymore customers at least lock the door and put up a sign.

Pros: Friendly tech did my pedicure. She was fluent in English, easy to understand (just being real - language barriers can be an obstacle for customers when communicating their needs), took her time and was extremely attentive. Lady who did my nails  looked at a picture I was referencing on my phone while picking a color and pointed to the color and said "how bout this one?" And it was perfect and turned out the same as my inspo pic. Shape, color, length of my nails - all was like she read my mind. She worked fast, and finished at record speed even though she was interrupted a couple of times. I like the layout of the salon and it was clean, well lit and smelled good (no overpowering chemical smell).

Cons: Lady who did my hands didn't trim around my nail beds or tend to my cuticles. Not a huge deal but it's somewhat noticeable to my discerning eye. Their payment system is weird. They were telling customers (myself included) to pay with cash and they'd get a $5 discount. Something about the owner not wanting customers to use cards. I usually always pay for everything with a card, so I did and didn't get a discount, though I gave a cash tip. Also just a personal preference but I like when the same person does my hands and feet. I'm on a budget so I'm cheap but also always tip at least 20%, so I had to tip two people extra generously bringing my total for everything to almost $100. I don't know if that's the running average around Dallas but another salon in Wolf Creek that I've been to was much cheaper for similar services. Just because of the price leaves me debating whether I'll come back. I mean this place is so close to my house I could probably throw a rock and it'd land on their roof. But yeah, as I said I'm on a budget planning for retirement and down payments and big things.

This was my 2nd time and last time going to this shop. Customer service today was not the best. When I told the manager I didn't like the shape of a finger, her response was "why you didn't tell me before I starting polishing?" She continued to polish. The pulled hands as if they were udders. The elder woman in shop is not the best technician. She never asked me if I wanted my nails round or square. She asked if I wanted cut and that was the last conversation. I had to tell her she was too rough. No eye contact, no conversation and unsatisfactory skills. Below is  a picture of the nail I was referring to. The service I got this time was totally different from the last time. I left out there hands white and ashy. They only had 8 people waiting for service and 4 people working. The manager was telling rudely telling people she didn't know how long the wait was. Obviously, we unacceptable customer service she don't value me as a customer and don't need my money. I'll find someone else.

They did an excellent job on my nails. They are taking extra precautions due to the COVID-19. Upon entry, you must wash your hands and wear your mask the entire time. The building is clean. I am pleased with the service I received.
