I can't tell you how much I love this salon! School picture day was approaching and my grandson needed a haircut. My husband, daughter and I were out shopping so we all went to the appointment. My grandson had just turned 5. Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the gentleman who cut Tyler's hair, but he was amazing! He took his time, explained everything as he went along and when he was able to use the electric clippers, I knew this guy was an expert and multi-talented! Tyler never let anyone use the clippers before. (Found out he has 4 boys of his own, with the youngest being about Tyler's age, so lots of experience and patience.) The finished product was outstanding. Tyler loved it, we all did! The gentleman gave my daughter tips on how to comb it and how to style it to get the look in the picture she provided and if not, the cut still looked great drying on its own. The price was very reasonable especially compared to the children's specialty shops he used to use. This will be our go to place forever. The entire staff was so friendly and in watching the process and the finished results of other customers, Moxie scored 10's! To drive my point, I'll divulge that I tipped the stylist as much as the haircut cost. That's how great we all felt the experience and the cut was! Thank you for the great customer service on top of everything else. We'll see you next time!

Review Edit: they doubled down on not apologizing which is really the bare bare minimum. Tldr; I would not recommend this place for waxing services, but the eyebrow threading was nice, and other customers rave about the hair services. I went 2x on the same day: first appointment was eyebrow threading & lip/chin waxing. It went ok enough that I came back for a full body wax including Brazilian. The second appointment did not go so well. The same person did both and she was so sweet, but I don't think waxing is her specialty. The *application* of the wax hurt. Outside of the bikini area they use the handheld rollers instead of fresh sticks, and they kept pulling and pinching and did not go on evenly. Waxing doesn't feel like a picnic anyway, and we had such nice conversation, so I let this slide. For the bikini area they do use fresh sticks. As she left she mentioned I had "a little bruising" because my "skin is sensitive." When she left and I was getting dressed, I saw how bad the bruising was, and I was bleeding where my skin *tore open down there.* This was not a follicle here and there bleeding where one hair came out, I had a 1/2 inch section of skin that was open and bleeding. If I moved my leg it could "talk." This was complemented by substantial bruising on my thigh: very visible/impossible to hide in a bathing suit. This is the day before I'm going on a beach vacation. So I am now very upset. As I'm checking out she mentioned giving me a discount on my *next* appointment which made me irate. The skin I had only *just* looked at when the service ended, she had fully seen during the service. The results were impossible to miss. It's a pretty bold assumption to think I would come back after the bleeding and bruising I got. When I started to freak out, the staff said they would wave the charge for underarm waxing as a one time courtesy ($15) and acted like they were doing me a favor. Then they asked me about if my hair is curly or not which was so confusing to me. Turns out they were writing a gift certificate for a blowout, which... huh? I didn't come for a blowout and wasn't upset about a hair service? (And again it was a bold assumption that I would come back *another time* instead of making sure I felt ok while I was standing there). When I had arrived, customers were raving about their hair. So maybe this is more of a hair Salon? Which makes sense why they'd push a blowout on me. But very strange to do that in this scenario. I felt uncomfortable escalating because the lady who did my waxing was so nice: I didn't want to hurt her feelings or make her feel bad, and she had another client there waiting for threading. There was no such concern for *my* feelings. No "I'm sorry" or "can I see how bad the bruising is?" or "if it's bleeding, we have bandaids/first aid." Maybe they are used to seeing this so it's not a big deal to them (yikes) but it was a big deal to me to have my bikini line botched before a big trip. I can forgive a hair stylist not knowing how to do waxing, but then don't offer those services if your people are not trained to do them at the same standard as your hair services. And if that service is botched: own it and try to make it right during that visit. Don't ask the client to come another day for a completely unrelated service. Don't tell the client nothing is wrong when it clearly, visibly is. Don't blame it on the clients skin: as sensitive as my skin may be, I've never had bleeding or bruising like this, and I was a training model at a cosmetology school getting waxed by trainees! Plus at that point I just wanted to go to urgent care considering the only aftercare advice I got from them was to "put Vaseline on" and I had a hunch that was insufficient. At urgent care they gave me stick-on sutures to *hold my skin together* so it heals with less scarring, and I got RXs for both topical and oral antibiotics to prevent infection since the open cut is on a sensitive area. And just in case you, reader, or the business have questions: Q: "The staff tried to make you happy, maybe you are really hard to please" A: Here is the bare minimum to make a client happy in that situation: - Apologize. I can't believe this needs to be said. - Credit the *botched* service in full. Not a different service. The service that was botched. - Never blame the client, or the clients body/skin, for a poor service rendered. - Acknowledge some re-training is necessary so this doesn't happen to someone else Q: This doesn't sound like us, you must have made it up! A: I have the geolocated pictures I took at the salon while I was still in the room, and more at home after urgent care placed the stick on sutures. I won't post private pictures online, but if you really want to see I can email them to management.

Asked for a simple trim, she cut off way more than she originally said she would. She showed me about half an inch and she cut off about 2 inches. Haircut came out extremely uneven, and still was uneven after I had asked her to fix it. Used no detangling product or heat protectant. Extremely upset.

SHAME on them! DO NOT GO HERE! UNRELIABLE and UNPROFESSIONAL! Do not schedule an appointment to see them. It JUST MIGHT GET CANCELLED on you! Two days in a row, they called to cancel appointment with lame excuses each time! First time, they called at 11:18 am ( appointment was scheduled for 3 pm THAT day) to say ( after ACCEPTING appointment!) that their stylist doesn't cut men's hair. So they rescheduled appointment and referred Rafik to do the cut instead. Next day, thinking there's finally going to be a set appointment, they called LESS THAN AN HOUR before scheduled time to say Rafik has to emergently cancel the hair cut appointment! It used to be a pleasant place to get a cut when Dana was available, running it as "HAIRSPACE". Not the case, anymore! GO ELSEWHERE! Anywhere ! JUST NOT HERE... unless you want to run the risk of not getting your hair done before an important event! I am in disbelief over how poorly managed this place is! If I could give NEGATIVE 1000 stars, I WOULD! SHAME ON ALL AT MOXIE SALON who were involved in the cancellation of the two appointments ( formerly HAIRSPACE, but with SAME MANAGEMENT...hmmmphhhhh!!!!) what a joke! I'm posting one star ONLY to ensure that this posting goes through!

I've been to Moxie in other locations before, so I was excited when Moxie opened up in east brunswick. After booking an appointment online I show up. Very clean and it looks very nice on the inside. While getting my hair washed, across the room from front desk I was asked if I'm a member, because I accidentally booked a member appointment. While trying to enjoy the wash, across the room she's trying to explain what the membership is, so I apologized for that and said that I'll do the introductory blow out if I can for the 34.99 price and she told me that price was for members only. Which all other signs in the place do not say that. I just responded that we will talk when I'm at the chair, because it was difficult to hear her with the water running on my hair. Once at my seat I ask about the blow out, and the one older woman said the price is for members, but then another woman said she'll offer it for first time. Which I was happy that she did offer it, since their own advertising says the price. I wanted waves but the man blew dry my hair straight, and then another woman used a curler to curl my hair and then brush out the curls. Usually blow outs I've had in the past use brush to achieve volume and waves and touch up with curler as needed. Needless to say my hair fell flat an hour later. The appointment online says everyone takes 30m, but I was there over an hour. I believe the previous salon rebranded into the moxie franchise. I won't be returning here for a blow out, it is not the typical moxie experience.
