I came into the salon with long, healthy hair just looking for more of a style and clean up. I asked for curtain bangs and layers and I now have split ends at every section of my hair. my hair is ruined and I will never be returning. do not recommend.
I've been exclusively going to hairplay for the last year or so after a botched balayage from
Another salon. I have PCOS and it has cause a lot of my hair to fall out and some of it has grown back, but it is still very thin. I am ADAMANTLY against cutting it super short and not one person in this salon has been anything less than super understanding or accommodating. Sophie has done an amazing job both times I decided I wanted vibrant colored hair, and when I was ready to chop 5-6 inches off... Lexi gave me an amazing cut that made me feel good about my hair again. I highly recommend this salon, and ESPECIALLY Sophie and Lexi.
I booked with Emily for a hair cut and she did amazing! She was so nice and listened to everything I wanted. My hair cut is perfect and she made sure that I got the hair cut I was looking for. I'm not very good at communicating exactly what I want, but she worked with me and made sure that I got what i envisioned. I asked for layers, long curtain bangs, and little to no length taken off. Its hard to come by hair dressers that don't end up taking off a lot of length when you ask for a trim. Emily didn't take off hardly any length and still made my hair look so healthy! Thank you so much!
I see Emily and I always leave really happy with my color and cuts! She's been kind to my hair while I torture it.
The salon is very open, clean and bright. They have a super easy way to book online and always answer the phone when I call.
I was really hopeful going in. I'm new to Alaska, it had been a stressful move and a rough transition settling. I've also been growing my hair out from a pixie cut and finally have gotten it to where it was touching my shoulders so I thought after so much time I could treat myself to a trim and hair treatment. The stylist was nice but for a full shampoo, treatment, cut AND blowdry... I was only in there for 45 minutes, and I spent a total of $75 for the entire service. She cut my thick hair in only one section then hacked away with the texturing shears after it was dry. That should have been the first and last red flag I needed, but what was cut was cut.
It was very rushed, she quickly finished off by loosely curling my hair and rushed me out of the chair before I could really ask to see the back or anything like that. I'd had a long day and was tired so didn't question it much at the time, the very front of it looked decent so why would I think the back would be different? I tipped her $20 and even bought an expensive hair treatment from the shop and I left to meet with my husband, we got in the car and - being someone who is normally not super observant - he was immediately able to point out the huge, weird hole that was cut out of the perimeter of the back side of my haircut... it was COMPLETELY LOPSIDED. I was totally crushed, and whatever was left at this time of my confidence was dropped into the floor.
Normally I brush this stuff off and don't bother with it because I don't like confrontation to any degree, and I like to think of myself as relatively low-maintenance. I tried to wear it and see if I could style it in a way that would mask the difference but I felt so horribly of myself after this experience I tried to go and have the situation remedied, even if it meant going shorter after so long of trying to get it to the length it was. I went in a couple days after it was done and tried to see if I could get it fixed, and they told me they wouldn't be able to get me in for another week... a week is too long to walk around in with a lopsided haircut, I asked if I could just get the money back for the haircut alone so I could see if I couldn't get it fixed somewhere else. They said they couldn't refund the haircut because the hair has already been cut... ??? It looked to me only half of my hair had been cut. I still wasn't mad at this point, only distraught because my hair was majorly wonky and I had to wait so long. We asked if we could talk to the manager to see if anything could be sorted out, but they weren't there. That's fine, I understand it was the end of the day. My husband called the next day asking for the manager again, surprise, they weren't available but they took our number and said they would call us back. They still haven't gotten back to us, not for even as much as an apology.
I'm speaking from experience from the last 4 years of being a hairdresser up until literally right before we'd moved here ... THAT IS NO WAY TO HANDLE A CUSTOMER. A persons hair is their greatest accessory. It's one of the first things people notice, and is one of the most major things that can really make or break anyone's whole vibe. My hair was left choppy, the layers were uneven by well over an inch of length on either side and I honestly don't really even know what happened to the back.. I was too baffled to even be rightly mad.
I could never imagine butchering a clients hair and making them wait a week wearing the cut. That's something I would be working overtime to fix, or at least have the decency to give their money back so they can get it redone somewhere else. Talk about adding insult to injury.
Anyways, I ended up just fixing the cut myself. It looks fine now, but there was probably a good 3-4 months of hair growth that had been lobbed off during this whole silly thing. I had to cut a good inch and a half off from the right side of my head to get it matched up to my left. If you aren't comfortable cutting medium/short hair - JUST TELL THE CLIENT SO THEY CAN FIND SOMEONE WHO IS. PLEASE DONT RUSH IT AND KICK THEM OUT.
