Scheduling: I called to schedule a shampoo and blow out. The receptionist informed me that appointments could only be scheduled online. The online scheduler on their website requires payment of more than 70% of the total cost of services upfront. I've never had to do that at any of the other salons I've been to but I paid it nevertheless. Checking in: I showed up five minutes before the scheduled appointment at 11am. However, the doors were still locked. I called and no one answered the phone. I waited around for a few minutes and lo and behold someone finally emerged to unlock the door. No greeting. No smile. Nothing. I signed in on the sign in sheet and the stylist proceeded to point at where she wanted me to sit. Process: The stylist shampooed and detangled my hair using way more detangler/styling products than my hair required. She then proceeded to get it bone dry without using a round brush. The result was a puffy mess with my hair sticking out in various directions. I was so shocked. I'm a person of color with wavy/curly hair so I don't have expect much when I go to a salon that caters to "white"/straight hair. However, they usually far exceed my expectations. On the other hand, THIS salon advertises itself as a place for people of color and claims to know how to deal with all hair types. Yet, the stylist had absolutely no idea how to even use a blow dryer. I don't say this a lot (if at all) but I could even done a better job than this lady. I left this place in tears. I've never left a salon feeling so embarrassed and ashamed. I now have to spend more time and effort to fix my hair myself.

Where do I begin!!! Sooo, I was ecstatic to find a BLACK owned salon close to me that I could walk there if wanted to (I'm sure I'd have to Uber home so as not to wreck my style sweating and what not walking back home! LOL). I first emailed Teresa the owner and she informed me that for the style I wanted (crotchet) India is the stylist that does them. I was on my way home from work one day and decided to stop in and as luck would have it, met India. Told her what I wanted done and she assured me no problem. I made an appointment and today got my hair done. India was awesome!! She started out by checking my scalp for any scratches or abrasions, asking did I have any allergies and asking me what was my plan for my hair, what are you trying to achieve? Wow! I'd never been asked that and it made me think, what do I want for my hair.. still thinking... After shampooing and conditioning my hair we got to work. The way she blow dried my hair was meticulous and I could really see my length!! She then braided me down and got to crotcheting my faux locs in for me. All the while double checking how I was feeling and how did I want to wear my style. When I tell you my protective crotchet style is (check my pic...)!! I'm going to have her silk press me when I get the nerve to manage it LOL! Thank you India and I will be back!!

I talked to Teresa and I feel so much better. She is an amazing stylist and is trying to grow her business. To be clear, Teresa didn't do my hair. I wish she did. I'm seriously considering have her do my hair soon. She was was honest, transparent, and warm -- everything I look for in a stylist. I was very impressed with her.
