I am disappointed in this shop. Me and my mom have been comming here for 2 plus years and this is the first time this has ever happened to me. I scheduled my appt Jan 1 st for the 7th if Jan at 8 am. I got there on time and to my surprise someone was in the chair already.I didn't know what style she was getting so I thought it's be quick since her hair was shorter then mine. So I'm waiting and I see she's getting box braids and I'm thinking well shouldn't she have another person coming to so my hair. It took her 4 hrs and a phone call from my mom asking if I would be done by a certain time for the braider to say " someone called off they were sick and had a headache. Previous years they've had at least 4 or 5 braiders in the shop before. I'm thinking she should have called another employee to come to the shop and braid, but NO I have been sitting here for almost 8 hrs and my hair still isn't done and this is time I could've been at home. After sitting for what is 8 hrs I finally get in the chair around 3 and she didn't get done braiding my hair until 10 pm. I was in the shop for 16hrs w/ only 8 of them being me in the chair. This seemed very unprofessional to me and makes me not want to come back. I love my hair but this was just the first horrible experience I had. If you do try the go on a Saturday.

Stopped into get my hair braided and it took over 2 hours for seven braids. They talk and play around way too much. After being there for an hour and a half and having 3 or 4 braids in my head I told them I needed to be gone by a certain time & they had the unmitigated gall to get an attitude. The young one who speaks English tries to convince me that I hadn't been there as long as I had been and then they proceed to try to talk about me in their native language, but the one who speaks English slipped up and started talking in English for a bit before she switched back to their native tongue. I stayed cool because I just wanted to get the hell out of there and it was obvious they couldn't multitask.

To top it all if when I got home and looked at my hair, it's a hot damn mess and as much as I don't want to, I have to go back for it to be fixed! My friends are trying to talk me out of it because I'm super pissed and their attitude and mine just might not mix today.

My parts look like a three year old did them and all of my hair isn't in the braids and I didn't notice that when I looked at my hair at the shop (I was in a hurry and the lighting wasn't the best), but when I got home under the light in my bathroom, I was super pissed!

So to sum this up, the girls in this place are unprofessional and give poor quality service. She saw those parts and braids when she did them and she knew they were of poor quality. They will have one chance to redeem themselves, so stay tuned for part two.

Great customer service. Got me in same day.
Was in contact before answered all questions I had. Very welcoming as soon as I walked in.  I went to another place in merrillville and they did the opposite made me feel u welcome. So I left. Thank god I found this place. They were great. I'll def be back

BEWARE!

In my opinion the owner of this shop is truly dishonest.  I got my hair braided on a Saturday. The following Wednesday my scalp started to itch really badly.  My scalp was itching so bad, I had to get out of the bed and stand under the shower to get relieve on my scalp.  The next day I felt a litter better. However, later my scalp started to itch again and was very irritated. Then I noticed  bumps and whelps on the nape of my neck and the sides of my face. My legs and arms were itching also. The next day it was getting worse. On Saturday, one week after getting my hair braided, I returned to the shop to talk to the owner.  When I walked in she immediately wasn't happy to see me. I informed her that this hair is bad and my scalp was itching really badly. She told me "it's not the hair." I said: "yes it is and I would like you to re-braid my hair with the hair I purchased."  "She was constantly stating: It's not the hair." I have had my hair braided for 35 years and this is the first time this has happened to me. (ON THE SATURDAY THAT I INITIALLY GOT MY HAIR BRAIDED AN EMPLOYEE CAME OUT OF THE BACK WITH HAIR THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN USED. IT WAS NOT EVEN IN THE PACKAGING, IT WAS LOOSE HAIR.) Therefore, I didn't know what she was putting in my hair.

I paid this woman $190.00 and she refused to re-braid my hair.  I had my hair braided for only a week.  They have horrible customer service skills. The owner's approach was wrong, everything about this place is questionable, this woman that braided my hair didn't even have a proper towel.  She came out of the back room with this plastic thing that looked like a plastic table cloth. When a customer complains about an itching scalp they should at least act concerned. This woman didn't even look at my scalp or neck. The only thing she wants is the money. She should have taken this hair out that I was allergic to, and informed me to come back once my scalp was better and re-braided my hair with the hair I purchased or given me part of my money back. I had an allergic reaction and she didn't care.   This was a horrible, horrible experience.  I couldn't stand it another day so I went straight to my regular hair stylist who is licensed and she told me along with the other stylist in the beauty salon that I am allergic to this hair. It a synthetic 100% Kanekalon hair and she should have re-braided my hair with human hair.  So before you spend your hard earned money with these people please look elsewhere for a reputable African braiding shop.  RUN DON'T WALK AWAY. RUN FAST.
