TK Nails in Ankeny in Ankeny, IA

To preface my review, I have been a loyal customer of this nail salon for the past 3 years and always leave excellent tips (up to even $40) because the work that they used to do was amazing. Today, I went in for an appointment wanting acrylic nails with a fairly simple nail design, but the lady could not even do the basics. She did not remove cuticles, sloppily cut my natural nails, gave me wrong-sized fake tips that were too big for my nail beds, could not do a simple french tip, and created a polish mountain with the acrylic powder. When I politely pointed out that the acrylic was WAY too thick and that the lengths were not even and asked if she could file it down, she started getting aggressive and saying, "if it looks ugly and it breaks, it's your fault not mine, all your fault". She also started filing my nails super aggressively to the point that my nails were starting to hurt and even nicked my skin with the nail drill.

I don't know if the management changed or something, but I did not recognize any of the nail ladies from previous visits, and I eventually just had them remove my acrylics because I already knew that I was going to just end up going somewhere else, to which the lady did not even remove all of the acrylic properly. I do not expect my nails to look exactly like any inspiration photo or to be perfect, but given what I know that this nail salon WAS capable of and the poor customer service, the nails I got done today were below sub-par. I have attached photos of what I got done today, how my damaged natural nails were left afterward, and the type of excellent work I have received in the past.

The manager graciously gave me a refund, but only after telling me that I should have been more picky about how I wanted my nails (but when I did today, my nail lady got angry with me). My experience with TK nails today was unacceptable, and unfortunately, I will not be returning.

Not a good experience. I had booked an appointment at their salon for 5:00. When I showed up 4:55, they had decided to take a large group of walk-ins at 4:45 and asked me to wait. I'm a patient person, but they didn't finish with the walk-in group until 5:30. I was getting a regular pedicure and gel manicure, which on the website is listed as 30 min and 45 min, respectively. The pedicure alone took 70 min, and when they realized it was so close to 7:00 (when they close) they did my manicure in 15 min. I have no idea why my appointment took so long. 2 other ladies who came in after me and had the same services as I did were out the door before I was. My gel manicure also started peeling and chipping within 5 days of the appointment. Felt very little respect to my time and a great lack of quality in service. Will not be coming back.

Always great service here. They are all very particular with their work, which I love.
They can do some nice artwork here.

Oh my goodness I haven't stop coming since my little sisters wedding - I am a regular. I get my nails done every 4 weeks (3 if I have a special event coming up) and they're incredibly accommodating. All of their nail techs are incredibly kind, chat with you if you're in the mood & ensure you're love your nails. I am EXTREMELY picky and have tried almost every salon in ankeny. They're my favorite. I will be getting my wedding nails done here & have recommended them to every single friend who's visited. Prices well, you WILL be coming back.

Pro tip: call ahead to get placed, with online - unless you get a confirmation text or follow up you are not booked!

I was new in town and needed to find a new nail spot. Went in for a pedicure and didn't have to wait. The lady did an awesome job and they were reasonably priced.
