I had been going to The Hair Department for a few years and was very happy and really loved my stylist, but she went on to better opportunities... leaving me to a very green stylist. And I'm sorry but I'm 40ish and having a 20 yo call me "sweetie" and "honey" is slightly irritating. But I thought okay, that's just a personality thing, I can over look that. BUT my last experience lead me to be wishing my former stylist was still there.
After SEVERAL attempts at highlighting and then me being handed off to another stylist to blow dry me because it was going on 3 hours in the salon. Then 20 yo comes back and in a more than THRILLED voice says "Don't you just LOVE IT!" My response was "No, I don't, this isn't at all what I asked for" she walked away. I went up to the counter to pay for what?? I'm not sure but time was spent so I was willing to pay. The manager Michelle came up to me and told me that I had made the stylist cry, I explained I just told her the truth- I never raised my voice, I was just honest. I hadn't got anything like what I asked for. She told me in a non-professional tone that I would be called and rescheduled... 4 weeks later I get a rude call from Michelle (the manager) saying I was not welcome back, and she actually hung up on me as I was trying to explain I just wanted highlights. I then tried calling back and she wouldn't accept my calls, so I called the salon and asked for the owner to call me back... he never did. I'm upset that I could LOVE the salon still but the level of unprofessional behavior can not be overlooked, and the fact that the manager said "we don't want you back" apparently they have enough business.
This was my first time there. I gave Skyler my colors and asked her if she can color my hair using these colors. It seemed to not be a problem. I was so excited to get my hair done, just moved out here and with COVID-19 I had not had my hair done in awhile. Everything went to HELL after that! She barely had two words to say to me, I just sat there listening to everyone else talk and the hair dressers asking them about their life. Then the color, she washed and took off the towel to reveal BRIGHT ORANGE hair. Now I have her my colors and they are reds, not orange. I was like what the ?? I told her this is not what I asked for and she stated that it did come out to orange. She tried to deepen the color with some RED that I asked for in the beginning and it still came out disappointing. She never said she was sorry and showed no emotion about how disappointed I was about it. I started to cry and asked her for a tissue and she was she here you go. No emotions, no sense of what might be wrong. I also had her give me a haircut and asked her to take 1 inch off. Well that was all she did, Just the bottom of my hair, not my bangs or even go through my hair to give it a cut. Then when I came home , I could not believe how much color was in my ears and around my face. This was NOT professional. The bill was $230.00 and I felt I just got ripped off. I went in there with such high expectations and came out crying

I had my first appointment with Christian on Friday, January 11. I am growing out my grey hair, and trying to do it with the least pain possible. I had gone to her a couple months before for a consultation and estimated price. When I went yesterday, I was completely wowed by her talent (especially with color) attentiveness, and personality. Without going into too many specifics, she lightened, toned, shampooed, conditioned, cut, and styled my hair so beautifully, while staying within the estimate she gave me. She is truly gifted.
The salon was clean, bright, friendly, and well appointed. A lovely experience in every way. Thank you to The Hair Dept., and to Christian for the best 3 hours of beauty I've spent in a long time! See you in 8 weeks!
