Ms Lee is absolutely great. She took extra care to fix my hair and worked with me after hours. I'll come back again.
First of all, Yelp needs to update this address. Split Ends Hair & Nail Salon is no longer at this Metric Blvd address. They moved to the Austin Commons shopping and retail center, on the corner of Burnet and Kramer Road (near the Domain). The new salon is much cleaner and brighter, and a much better location. Ly is the owner and she usually cuts my hair. I have always been satisfied with her cuts which keeps me going back. Ly gives a stylish cut for a reasonable price. For any guys living in North Austin or near the Domain, I highly recommend this place.
First, Split Ends is no longer in this strip mall. That hair salon was replaced by another hair salon by the name of Hailey Design. From what I can tell, it's a one-lady operation, which is fine for the level of business it gets right now. I was very pleased with the results I got from here and she was very accommodating even when my first eyebrow threading experience brought tears to my eyes (but I'm sure it would have been much worse elsewhere. I'm just a crybaby). My hair request: A slightly lighter coloring (black to brown) with reddish overtones, that looks new and different, but still very natural. V-shape cut with layers, side swept bangs, and much thinning out of the hair. And threw in eyebrow threading because I've been meaning to get it done and she suggested it. And it was well worth it for completing the makeover. I think overall it took about 2 hours? Mostly the 45 minutes waiting for the color to set. It was a great experience all around. She talked me through a lot of the decisionmaking process, which was very informative. Apparently the fluff in my hair wasn't dandruff like I thought, but just really dry scalp (so she recommended switching to a moisturizing shampoo/conditioner, which has already worked perfectly). And because my hair is naturally almost jet black, you have to use an almost blonde coloring to get it to look brown (without using bleach or other hair damaging products). She was just very nice and sweet. It also helped that the prices were low-to-standard pricing. All the above for $107.
THIS REVIEW IS STRICTLY FOR THEIR NAIL SERVICES. First visit: Came in to have my shellac polish removed. $5 -- sure! Didn't take too long and the young lady who so kindly assisted me was very sweet. Second time: LASTED TWO HOURS. Yup, for a mani/pedi. NO LIE. This place is definitely cheap: $30 for a spa pedi, $35 for mani/pedi. A few comments on this visit: 1) Spa pedi wasn't too bad. Hot towels, exfoliation, massage and moisturizing. Only complain was the rough handling. She poked me with her nails as if my toes weren't sensitive enough. Ouch! Please proceed with caution! 2) My friend endured TWO HOURS during her mani/pedi. SUFFERED. Her nails weren't cut even, polish came out as if they were done by a ten year old and did I mention the young lady would TEXT as she was doing the mani/pedi. Come on! Sorry to say I won't be back, which is quite disappointing as it's right down the street from me. Darn.
I love this place. I said I'd never go to a place that costs less than $50, but I rolled the dice on this place for some reason. I got an amazing haircut - exactly what I wanted and described, and only had to show a picture and say a few words. If you're not happy, she will make sure she makes you a satisfied customer. I'm never going anywhere else for a new 'do. =)
