A picture is worth a thousand words (or a thousand tears) so I'll just leave these pictures here. Save yourself the tears!
First I want to say this is not a review or bashing session of any particular stylist. I'm here to discuss how the owner dealt with an unfortunate haircut I had in their salon. I have been going to this salon for over five years and have spent close to 10k getting everything from cuts to color to keratin. While there have been one or two times over the years I've needed a slight adjustment of something, I've generally been happy with my services and continued to come back. However, both my stylists recently left for different reasons and so I tried a new stylist who cut my hair twice. Which brings me to my complaint. The newish-to-me person couldn't be nicer but gave me a haircut that was uneven and choppy with odd layers. Of course I couldn't really tell until after I washed it. So I called and spoke with the owner who answers the phone at which point she told me that "maybe you're just not a good fit for the salon anymore" and basically accused me of complaining too much (I had the same two stylists for 5 yrs and never had problems with either of them). No sincere apology, no ownership on the mistake or humble attempt whatsoever to acknowledge what a good customer I have been. Again, I have spent close to 10k here over the course of 5 yrs and was told by both of my prior stylists that I was an excellent client and one of their best tippers. Bottom line-this salon has very much declined and lost talent. You will be hard pressed to find good reviews that aren't over a year old. What used to feel like a bustling business seems eerily quiet with hardly any customers now. And the owner seems apathetic and totally disinterested in her business at this point other than the fact her daughter works there. Save your money, there are tons of similarly priced high end salons that are actually worth it. This place is stale and they should just hang up their clippers. (I am sure this review will be responded to with some snarky remark as they have done to other bad reviews but just remember the way a business owner responds to criticism says a lot about how they will treat you as a customer.)
The receptionist is incredibly rude. Please work on your ability to respectfully communicate with clients. She was short with me, hung up on me, and didn't listen to my feedback. This receptionist has been rude to my family members as well. It's not a coincidence or a "bad day" type of occurrence. If you want an experience that treats you like a human do not go here. Beauty and Balance in Wilmette surpasses this place by miles.
Well, Robert Gold is a talented cutter- and as long as you let him decide on the cut and he gets to be the artiste- all is well. But, after 7 years of loyal service, I brought in a cut that 3 other cutters could not replicate. His gal Ginny tried and failed so I asked her to watch a video of the cut I found online which showed the intricacies of it... so she could get it right. She refused! I want back to Bob and asked him to watch it so I could finally get the cut I wanted (a Meg Ryan cut). He agreed to watch the video, then cancelled my appointment and went on vacation. I waited 3 xtra weeks and went thru many bad hair days waiting for him to get back- thinking it would be worth the wait. The day of, I called the salon and asked them to remind him to view the 7 minute clip I had sent over months before. Even tho he had promised, he actually cancelled my cut 3 hours before the service , putting me into hair crisis without a caring how do you do..and forcing me to go find a new hairstylist . That was 7 YEARS of loyalty to his salon, repaid with utter rudeness. .
I really have been having bad luck with this salon! I went to this salon because it is highly rated (especially on google) and unfortunately I had the worst experience ever! I got half my brazilian waxing and spent a maximum of 25 mins for painful waxing. They burned my V!! (The after effect was hell). The worst thing was the therapist never stopped talking about how long my hair was. -_- (thats why I went to your salon!!!). Also I didn't get my backside/bottom waxed. (Never happened before in other salons).
