I'm glad we live close enough to take advantage of this place. Keeping in mind that it is a SCHOOL, I know that I'm giving aspiring stylists "clinical" experience so that they may confidently go forth and practice. The atmosphere is casual, busy, and I too appreciate the instructors that circulate freely. It would be nice if they could incorporate some little envelopes to facilitate tipping in a discreet manner but hey - it's a beauty college. I am absolutely thrilled with the highlights I got this week, as I told the stylist, I don't know if I want to go drop a lot of money on something that I don't know if I'll like or want to maintain 2 weeks from now, at these prices, I can afford to try something different out - and remember to ask your student if they have a card, in case they graduate before you make it back!

Oh My!!! I spent one entire afternoon at this school and when I left I felt as if me and my girls had spent the day at a spendy spa..... Treated with the upmost care by Jennifer H who geve me the most AWSOME pedicure I had ever had....and I might ad I have them every month and i'm getting up there in age and have been doing it now for years!

I also had Angel Kolar who is the most amazing stylist ever she cut, colored (not dyed) my gray hair and I was not wearing the hair all over my slcks and top....She will be the stylist I follow when she graduates....she is quick but precise and that sometimes is difficult to find...Love her.

The girls with me had graduation manicures and they were pretty good too, sorry to the ladies the girls did not get your names.  Only real con was the color of nail polish chosen was not to the mom liking, but then again I'm not the one who had to wear it!

I take my grand children who are now 5 (b) and 3 (g) and they love the attention Ms. Angel Kolar gives them.  Most little tikes don't wish to sit still but Angel K. has a unique way with the little ones!

Please note that Phagans is now in their new location at the corner of 27th and Medical Center.

I've been going to beauty schools for several years after getting one too many bad $40 haircuts. I've always had a decent cut at the schools. The students try very hard to please and do what I want, and all cuts are checked by instructors. If the student is new and uncomfortable, they ask for help during the cut, which is comforting. My only complaints are that sometimes the cuts take a long time, but they are students and are learning so I just deal with that. Also, it's frustrating when you find a student you like and go back to the same person, only to have them graduate and move on. Often they don't know what they are going to do after they leave, so you can't follow them. But hey, for the price and convenience, it's OK.

Tuesday is ladies day, all cuts only $5. Men's $5 days are Tues and Thurs. But even on the expensive days, $9 isn't bad.

Ok, so it's a beauty college--not a high brow salon atmosphere by any means, as demonstrated by the 12 beauty school students huddling on the side of the building smoking when I pulled into the parking lot.

But once you get past the 5,000 cigarette butts on the ground and inside the building you find a busy, energetic place filled with stylists-to-be who are eager to try out their new skills.  I took my nearly 3 yr old son in for a haircut this morning and Jennie, our student stylist, did a great job!  I like how the instructors check all cuts for accuracy (and make any corrections if deemed necessary) before sending you on your way.  And, since the cuts are only $4.99 on Tuesdays you just can't beat that deal anywhere else in town!

For now on I'll be taking my toddler to Phagans on Tuesdays (screw paying $17 at Sprouts!) since it really doesn't matter to him if he's sitting in a car-shaped chair while he's getting his locks snipped.  I'll just throw a lollipop of my own in my purse for afterward and I'll save myself  twelve bucks.  :)
