Color Me Red in Cortland, NY

I'm a firm believer in trying most things twice, in case the first experience is a fluke. However, after three visits for three different services (1 keratin, 1 trim, and 1 blowout+ trim) it's now entirely evident to me that Color Me Red is not worth hours of sitting in a chair. I got my first ever keratin treatment by Stylist Potter before an event out of state. By the time I washed my hair, four days later, my hair was almost as curly as it was before the treatment. I called CMR later that day and was able to connect with the stylist, who said she was busy and would call me back. Two days went by before I decided to check-in again. I explained that I was out of town for a month and wasn't expecting a refund or any magic cure. I was also willing to send before and after pictures to clarify exactly how curly my hair was almost immediately after the treatment. Rather, i explained, I called because wanted to see what products I could use (other than the shampoo and conditioner I was up-sold) to preserve my treatment. During this second call I was again met with "I have your number and I will call you back..." That call never came. A $360 expense should have lasted longer than a week. At the very least, some follow-through with customer contact should have been made. Was it inexperience? Or was the stylist uneducated about the product? For reference, I went to a stylist at Transformations in Ithaca who listened to my CMR experience, and understood what procedural error was made based on my description of how the CMR stylist did the treatment. As of today, I've never had any other Keratin treatment last less than 11 months. In other visits to Color Me Red for a "trim" and one blowout with a trim I walked in with shoulder length hair and walked out with a bob I never asked for. I probably should have said something in the moment, but there's always that bit of anxiety as a woman of color especially in a yt salon. During both visits I was told it would be just an inch, yet once I was spun around to look in the mirror I saw a trim of 4 inches or more. It was never brought to my attention that I would need such an extensive cut, especially when I regularly get trims, so my ends aren't split. It's disappointing to feel like someone is entitled to doing whatever they think looks good versus listening to a customers preference for a short trim. Rating 1 star because the stylists are decently friendly... although one does love to rant a little too much about how her adult daughter hates making friends with other women?? Tldr; Color Me Red is not worth your money. There are better high-end salons that have stylists who are actually knowledgeable.

Well, I just had another great experience at Color Me Red Salon! I'm a regular nail customer of Krystal's and she has never disappointed me. I love how she takes her time, gives me her complete attention during our time together, and helps me choose the best product for my nails. I've used other services over the years at Color Me Red, and feel the same way about those experiences whether it was a good haircut or a pampering day before my son's wedding. The atmosphere is fun and comfortable, and always clean and stylish.

I love the Color Me Red Salon. Granted, I only go there to have my nails done by the best manicurist, Krystal, but the salon's staff are always friendly, helpful and pleasant. The atmosphere is relaxed and far from being pretentious. As far as my manicurist Krystal's skill, she is so accommodating with scheduling and is really flawless in her application of product for gel nails or dips. I give the salon five stars and, of course Krystal, is the best of the best!!

The salon is nice and so are the stylists. It has a small parking lot. What their website neglects to mention on their Pricing page is that they do NOT accept credit card - you can pay only with cash or personal check. It would be nice if their website included this information to avoid having to run out and find a nearby ATM to pay for services. Another thing that was disappointing was at my last appointment I specifically mentioned that I had split ends and would like them cleaned up. Needless to say, when I got home I noticed that none of the split ends were cut. I also thought I had made an appointment on the same day for a waxing, which didn't happen. It is a nice salon, but needs improvement.
