Cielo Beauty Salon in Pomona, CA

This hair salon has been my place to go since early 1990s. That should let you know how awesome I think it is. It is a modest location with very reasonable fees AND professional service. I highly recommend it.

I've seen this place so many times but never considered it until I noticed $5 kids haircuts on Fridays. It can get busy on Kids Cut Fridays after school. Only up to age 9...darn for my 13 year old. But at least my 9 year old got his done. On the last visit two weeks ago, I took my youngest. The lady at the front didn't say anything for a good 5 minutes to any incoming customers because she was too busy talking to a couple on their phones in Spanish. I wouldn't have minded too much had she acknowledged I was waiting to get my son a haircut. It turned out this lady who was busy, was the one who ended up giving my son his haircut. From that point on she was totally attentive to his needs and was trying to strike a conversation. She gave him a haircut that lit up my son's face, he was elated. I gave her a tip based on the good service she gave my son despite the initial inattention she was conveying. I decided to come back based on the special. Unfortunately my oldest son didn't qualify because he was too old for the kid's special. Hey, it was worth a shot. The man who cut his hair was polite enough to explain that my son didn't qualify due to his age but said he would give him one for $10. I guess they don't call me Miss Bargain Hunter for nothing...I was initially bummed but let him get one since he said he'd wash his hair at no extra cost. The last barber shop charged me extra to wash his hair. My son was happy at the end, looking handsome as ever. He was pretty awesome at communicating with my son. There's adequate seating in the waiting area. A magazine rack. I don't think the tv is available to customers because it's faced toward the barber station. There is a small product station where you could buy hair products to take home. Why did I give three stars? The customer service could be a lot better. Both times I came in I've seen the ladies glued to their phones instead of looking up to acknowledge you're there. I know it happens often because when I pass by to get to nearby restaurants or stores, these ladies are still glued to their phones while customers are in the waiting area. They should be more professional and keep the texting or internet surfing to break times or in the back. Why not attempt to liven up the place? Move the products in an interesting way? Talk to the clientele, suggest a haircut book or ask if we want to watch something too. It just feels so "cold" in there. If it weren't for their special, I would never have came.
