Beauty Brands in Olathe, KS

My last visit to this location was in 2009. I stopped coming here because of poor customer service, lack of staff diversity, and expensive prices. It's been a very long time and here is how my visit went:

Customer service: 8.5/10 I knew exactly what I was shopping for and had not planned to look at anything else. So, when I made a beeline to a product display, I was immediately helped by someone. The employee found what I needed instantly and she was very sweet. The store was not crowded since it was lunch hour and I was rung up quickly. Though, I am confused as to why the cashier thought it was a good idea to put large bottles in a small bag?

Diversity: 2/10 This visit, I did not see much diversity among the staff. This has been the downfall for me with any Beauty Brands store I visit. They do carry products for minorities in the stores, so why not have staff that is also diverse that can provide insight on those products? Plus, it really is not reflective of our society today.

Product selection/price: 9/10 Anyone that visits a BB knows they carry higher end products with prices that may be pricy to some. For me, it's all about the reason you are going to this type of store. In my case, I needed something very specific that I did not want to go to Ulta for. (See my previous review) The great thing about Bb is they have a few sales throughout the year.

Overall: 8.75/10 It was a great visit. I would come again when it is time to re-up. I did not see an option for online shopping and pick up, which is a bummer but not a deal breaker. Though I do not come to BB very often, I would shop this location again.

I love the salon at this location. I've had a manicure, pedicure, waxing, and hair services all done at this salon, and every visit has been great!

I went in for a "bang trim" to shorten my curtain bangs. I specifically told my stylist I wanted my curtain bangs "just a little shorter". She even verified the length for me before cutting. So I was unpleasantly surprised when she turned the chair around and I was given a bluntly cut, stringy fringe. It was as if she had severely messed up and was trying to play it off as if it was purposeful. I had CLEARLY asked for only my curtain bangs to be trimmed and now I am left with hair I hate for prom and graduation that will take months to grow out. Not at ALL what I asked for. My hair is completely ruined. (Note: I will admit that after it was done I told my stylist that I liked it. I was so utterly shocked I didn't know what else to do but I got in my car and immediately cried lol.)

I've been contemplating decapitation since it could only be slightly less unseemly than what the "curly hair specialist" did to me.

Booked a appt w/ Jessica and asked for a trim and to just leave it mainly the same length all over. My texture is 3b with slightly tighter curls in one part of my hair and a bit looser at my neck. We went over all of this. More hair than I wanted was cut but I wouldn't of even of left a bad review for that. It's just so uneven in the front. The back looks OK.

I'll probably be spending as much if not more on hats till the front grows long enough to try to cut again evenly.

I took my 14 year old son to Master Tech Kris D on 5/19/21.   He had been growing his hair out for several months trying to achieve the shaggy high school look with a short mullet in the back as well.   Spent a few minutes with Kris explaining that he wanted to keep the long shaggy look, keep the mullet but keep it above the collar, and keep the bangs but just over the eyes.  She was very understanding of what he was looking for, and understood we were just barely trimming to meet school and work requirements, but keep the long look!    We were so specific and she was so good about repeating exactly what we wanted back to us.  I left for 10 minutes to grab a drink, he calls me upset and she had already finished.  I assumed as quick as it was that she hadn't cut enough.  I walked into him in tears!   She had cut off ALL of the hair he had grown and the look he wanted to achieve for the summer.  She cut it like a toddler hair!   Bowl cut, mullet completely gone, super clean.   No length left in the back at all, sides clean, not shaggy look at all!   This may not sound like a big deal, but for a kid who has rules around his hair length in school all year, he was timing it just right to have this long hair for summer.   I feel really bad for him and I am absolutely furious with how completely incompetent this stylist is!   Obviously all they can offer me is to comp the cut, but they don't have to deal with the upset teenager that now doesn't want to leave the house.  He looked 18 and now he looks 8!
