Alana Kai Salon in Richmond, VA

NOT THE PLACE FOR CURLY HAIR!! Unfortunately I feel heavy writing this review but it's the truth. If you have curly hair , THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. I went to Alana Kai Salon on Thursday to get a blow dry (wash + blow dry). My natural hair is curly however, I have done the Brazilian back in January which mean the only curly part I have is the roots. It's not a lot or thick. In other salons my hair was done within 30 minutes because majority of the hair is already straight. Since I had a wedding on Friday in another state and my flight was the first thing in the morning. I requested a simple blow dry. The process took 2 hours. The blow dryer in my opinion did not have enough heat to make my hair straight (roots). In my opinion the stylist was focusing on the bottom part (which was already straight). She also said my hair was thick (which it is not)I had to tell the stylist multiple time to focus on blow drying the roots because I was able to see the fizziness. Her response is that she's worried about being too close to the scalp and won't have much volume. As anyone with curly hair knows this is expected when straightening hair. I was fed up because at the end a simple task was done without me being at ease. It was frustrating constantly telling the stylist to focus on certain part. If I did it to myself I would have been at ease and saved money. The stylist was nice but I was done, and couldn't have the heart to tell her anything. I had to leave and fix it on my own.

It the eve of my engagement party and I was not able to make a hair appointment downtown. I gave Alana Kai a call and they were able to get me in right away. Amelia was my stylist and she is truly a gem. She holds great conversation and was just excited for my event as I was. She dedicated great attention to my requests and talked me through every step. It's a gorgeous and tidy space with complementary beverages. The prices are unbeatable for the west end, especially for the quality of care you receive.

Rude staff, clearly only care about getting your money. The cancellation policies do not have much leeway at all. Receptionist I spoke to seemed annoyed I wanted to make an appointment that same week. I was on hold for much longer than anticipated, as if they forgot about me. Their prices are what you'd expect from Short Pump but still overpriced for what they give. Nice salon look, but if you want to use your money and time wisely I would go somewhere else.

Love getting my hair cut or color by Mallory. She did such a great job on my cut, wasn't sure what I wanted and she helped me with decision and it turned out fabulous! Thanks Mallory

I just got my first blowout and it was amazing! This salon is beautiful, light, airy and open. They were able to schedule me day of at the perfect time. Karen did my blowout and it is perfect! She was kind and let me know what she was doing each step. My hair looks amazing! Highly recommend!
