Wellcana Hair Gallery in Alexandria, VA

I have been going to Wellcana for over 8 years on and off, and I have always received great service and beautiful styles. I went to them when my hair was relaxed and when it was natural. I have gotten braids if all kinds, weaves, and silk presses, and I have never been disappointed. As long as I live in this area, I will continue to go here.

Very nice salon, with talented hair braiders, would definitely recommend. I was in and out and not to mention my hair lasted for a long time, the braids were not too tight or too loose, everyone loved braids I walked out the salon with. Will look for a time to go back.

I arrived for my crochet appointment. My hair is short and thin. The back of my hair was shaved but grown out a bit. The style of choice, short tapered curly crochet style. The price quote was $130. My crochet foundation braids were initially braided entirely too tight. I was miserable for an entire week. I left not completely happy. I fought myself on reaching out to the stylist. I did end up reaching out because of the financial investment.I was told, it was a style that gets better as it ages. My edges are non existent. I went with the advice that the style will get better as it ages. Later that week after popping pain pills for excruciating pain flanked with tiny head sores, I called the stylist for suggestions. I was told to come in for a review/consultation. Within the telephone conversation, I was told, I did your hair before without issue. This was a true statement but not relevant to this situation. The same statement regarding previously doing my hair w/o issue was repeated in the in-person consult. I explained that my head was very sore. She looked through my hair roughly. I wasn't sure what she was looking for, the sores, maybe? They were definitely there. The outcome was told to call back the next day and schedule a new hair style for half price. I was outraged on the inside, pissed. You hurt and possibly damaged my scalp and your solution is too charge more money, less than a week later. ((((WOWSERS)))). I needed relief and a hair style. I was sick of the demands. I said keep your money and I will never return. I looked all over for a different stylist. I call this particular stylist back to set an appointment because it made sense financially. Going to someone else and paying full price or allow her to redeem herself for half price. I tried to set an appointment, but was told I needed to come this week for the discount or it wouldn't be honored. I was told the style I selected was 180, so I had to pay $90. I arrived, my hair was shampooed and then I was sat under the dryer. The same stylist started my hair. A braid assistant completed my hair. Which was 75% of the job. The stylist/owner left before my hair was completed, but NOT before asking for her money and an additional $5. She stated she was required to use extra hair hair the size of the braids. I was no longer willing to play nice. I was honestly trying to take the high road. I don't like the outcome of the fixed style. There braids were not braided all the easy down. I let the stylist/ braider know the hit water used t.i set my hair was burning. She said it's steam. Idgaf it's burning. My goal is to be completely honest and not malicious. My goal not to tarnish someone's livelihood but to make people aware of my service and to hope this is read and behavior is modified. I don't recommend, I will never return. Financial loss, time loss is the best teacher. Convenience is not the key to a good hairstylist. She was conveniently located with good hours. Lesson learned.

They did a great job on short notice. I called last minute for a braided ponytail. We established pricing and details (length, type of hair, and time) by text. I was unable to make it on time due to traffic and Sophia (the owner) offered to come in early the next day to accommodate my schedule. Amazing customer service!!! Average braiding. I took off a star b/c the first braid was sooo tight. I noted this and the lady braiding quickly agreed to not braid as tight. I still had bumps along my hairline though in several spots, but it wasn't as painful as her first braid. Would return.

Please do not waste your time or money at this place. I asked for micros and got a hot mess. Words can't begin to describe the atrocity that was my hair. It was not neat, they started to fall out THE SAME DAY. They glued my hair, MY ACTUAL HAIR. I had to wear hats and head pieces for the entire month and a half that I had the braids because that's how long they lasted. I would've had them do it over right then but I was to upset and will never let them touch my hair again. All I can do now is warn others. I went to another shop for the takedown and she said everyone has the same complaints. I wish someone had warned me.
