Tigerlily Salon & Spa in San Luis Obispo, CA

I'm not usually the one to leave reviews, but if I could leave negative stars I would. This had to be one of the most inhumane and shocking experiences I've been through. I went in to get my roots done, and it was obvious that the girl who was assigned to my hair didn't have much experience, and that's completely understandable, but to blame me for her lack of experience and to get me kicked out is just another level of disrespect, unprofessionalism and outright inhumane. I told her I could give her the color formula to ease her nerves and she was still hesitant to do my hair. While waiting, she left for a few minutes and came back and told me she decided not to do my hair (??), and that she couldn't. I got quite shocked and asked her why she took me in if she couldn't do my hair, as I look to the side the front desk girl, I believe her name is Addy, told me that I needed to leave and that I was "scaring" her worker. She then threatened to have the cops called while I was sitting in my chair doing absolutely nothing but being confused and still questioning them as to why they even accepted the reservation. As I was leaving, the cherry on top was the front desk girl smiling telling me "bye, see you!" in a mocking tone, like nothing had just happened. I left in tears, shaking and in shock, please do not come here, they preach inclusivity and positivity but they are nothing but grown bullies, I know I'm not the only person that has experienced this, as I've heard multiple horror stories. Save yourself and go somewhere else, please.

Reanna is the best!!!! I am very blonde and get bleach root touch ups regularly. I've probably seen 6 different stylists in the past year and always end up disappointed. Reanna did such an amazing job on my hair, literally the best anyone has ever done and I'm picky lol. My hair looked amazing after. It wasn't grey or silver or purple - it was a beautiful blonde color. She is also so sweet and easy to talk to, and brought out hair swatches of different blonde toners (no one has ever done this) if you are looking for someone to do blond - or hair in general - she the one!

I really wanted to love this salon as a genderqueer woman I have a really hard time finding salons that are comfortable for me and can blend/ bend gender in hair styling. I'm not talking super out of the box simple things like feminine hairlines and tight sides along my glasses. So when I saw this salon sponsoring pride and read their website I was hopeful. Too bad my experience did not match my hopes. When I made my appointment the person scheduling did not ask for my pronouns so I assumed the stylist would as part of their intro. It was on their online intake form so I thought it would be standard practice. When it wasn't mentioned at either place and my pronouns were assumed feminine thus misgendering me a few times during my appointment. (I use neutral pronouns) I did make reference to being genderqueer to see if it would trigger a conversation about pronouns as it often does in queer friendly spaces but it did not. I just didn't have the energy at that moment to do the correction and have the potential awkward conversation after. My stylist also seemed unable to blend gender styles providing me with a very masculine hair style. I was trying to communicate that at the beginning of my haircut and quickly gave up as I realized I was in for a very binary experience. While I understand this may be a challenging request this was advertised as a LGBTQ affirming space so my expectations were high. At the end I did say I was happy with my cut even if I was less than thrilled with it and my experience, and know my stylist would have tried to fix whatever I didn't like. Yet, I was ready to be done and move on. Knowing this was not the queer friendly place I'd hoped for or the level of haircut I would have expected for what I was paying. Alas the search continues.

I got the best haircut I've ever had from Destiny! She was so friendly and made my hair come out exactly like I'd wanted and like the photos I'd brought in. I will definitely be going back!

Rece did a great job of listening to my likes and dislikes...so I left the salon very happy with my haircut.
