My son is 14 years old and autistic, After many years and lots of practice he's awesome at getting his hair cut. It was our first time here after moving to MO. We've gone to Super cuts in CA for years and always had an incredible experience.  I stood about 6 feet away so I could help him if needed, He can have trouble following verbal directions (ie- "turn your head to the side.") The stylist said- "I need my personal space" and asked me to sit in the chair across from her. She told him a couple of times to put his head down when he was trying to look in the mirror.  When she turned on the hair dryer he jumped a little. "I can't believe he's 14," she said.

Physically - he looks his age.

"What does that mean?" I asked politely, assuming I misunderstood her. She just shook her head and scoffed. I asked her 3 more times why she said that- and she just said- "it's crazy." (A customer in the store called out- "he looks 14 to me.") I would have walked out then -but I knew that would be upsetting to my son so we finished the cut.

Autism isn't a problem in our home- the problem is often with the rest of the world. This employee desperately needs Diversity Training. Unfortunately, you can't teach empathy.

Is it a great haircut? No; you knew that. Is it a passable haircut, at least for a bald man? Yes! And it's fast. And it's cheap. And I can usually walk right in and sit down without much of a wait. Quality and attention varies by stylist. I have one I like who doesn't rush, makes sure all the little flyaways not captured by the clippers get snipped, and uses a hot towel. I appreciate that. I have one that gives you a quick hard once over with the clips, hopes she got it all, and spins the chair around. I'd give four stars for the former experience and two for the latter, so three it is.

*DISCRIMINATION AGAINST BREASTFEEDING MOTHERS*First of all Janice insists she knows what she's doing since she's been doing this for 30 years but indeed does not. I showed a picture of the haircut my brother always gets (picture of himself) and the sides were long but she went in with the shaver instead of clarifying what he was wanting. I voiced that wasn't what we were wanting. Instead of saying I'm sorry there was a misunderstanding or miscommunication she kept going on and on about you said that and the picture is that. When I said no it's not it was a misunderstanding but she would not let it go and kept going on about it when I wasn't saying anything at that point because the damage had been done. Trying to gaslight me and have an attitude about to the rest of the time. I saw his heart dropped when he looked in the mirror and the back of his head was shaved and was visibly upset the rest of the haircut. During this time I tried to sit down in the seat by him to breastfeed my baby and was told I couldn't sit there due to "insurance purposes" and tried to sit some where else but couldn't sit there either apparently. I pulled a chair up to sit down to feed my baby then she suggested I sit behind a partition with salon seats (now apparently "insurance purposes" doesn't apply). We were the only ones on the building mind you until a lady came in a halfway through and also expressed that she was fine and it's all natural. I said I was good right here where I was to feed my child for 5 minutes. The manager now is advising hairdressers to refuse service to Breastfeeding mothers because it is "inappropriate". Also gaslighting those involved to make it seem like me feeding my child was the problem. The manager said it threw her off and upset her, that's why she messed up his hair even tho the mistake was made before I fed her. Breastfeeding is a protected right and there is so much ignorance in this building I can't even explain. Leaving the lady left in the lobby asked if the hair dresser needed a break bc I was not the only one witnessing her lack of emotion regulation. You know what's less distracting than a mother breastfeeding her child? A screaming baby because she's hungry.

It is 08/14/2022.

Evidently at super cuts, it's another month entirely. Also, there's a 2 day gap between Sundays and Mondays.

My first professional haircut in two years, which was desperately needed. Sure, I can use the trimmers but I need it done a bit better today as I'm meeting my work colleagues for the first time.

The woman who cut my hair started off a little cold but warmed up well enough. On a Monday morning, she was the only stylist working which meant she was also answering the phone and dealing with walk-ins while she was also doing my cut.

The cut didn't suffer from the distractions. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.
