This is a family friend that I've been going to for years. The stylist is really nice and I enjoy being one of her clients.
Excellent place for a walk-in!! I was able to get a shampoo, conditioner and style at the last minute for a function the same day I scheduled the appointment. Very reasonable price! There were several people in the salon and she was able to get me in. Thank you Stylist Showcase!!!
Ok, I have tons of mixed feelings about this place and I'm hoping to put them all in order while I write this review. I am not going to have a chance to update it later on. I am not having another appointment in that salon again. Not even if I wanted. The hairstylist literally hung-up the phone on me!!!! I have a tiny bit of a feeling that I am a "persona non grata" at her salon. Oh joy!
Here we go with my review and consequently my point-of-view of the unfair rudeness.
Her salon is a time machine set in the 80's. Pics on the wall are loaded with high-hair looking ladies and their feline type make-up. I cringed a little when I walked in. I thought to myself "That is not looking good. How were those reviews showing 4 stars? She's got to have some tricks to pull out of her sleeves to get all that!" On a side note, weeks afterward I realized that the one with the good reviews was across the street! I should have gotten the hint that I had called the wrong place!
Anyway, believing the good part was still to come I bravely talked to the receptionist - the hairstylist herself - and sat to wait for my turn.
As I wasn't really open to the environment at this point I kept my talking to a minimum. I must say though that I learned she was really upset with some former employee that left her to go work for another salon while taking with her all the clientele! This and a few grumblings here and there after a few small-talk attempts sums up our conversation for that day.
Now, I must say she did my hair totally FINE! That's why the second star is hanging in there. The result was as I asked and price was average; actually I would say it should be cheaper than average as I felt I almost needed to apologize for being there! When I tried to pay,no card swipe machine! I had to leave my entire purse as guarantee to be back and run to the ATM by the parking lot to get cold hard cash!
Well, weeks passed by and I wanted to keep my hair's length. As I was close to her salon I stopped by to schedule a next one. She was much more cheerful this time and came right away to talk to me."Great!" I thought "She was probably just really upset that other day!"
Simultaneously while telling me her schedule availability I was opening my calendar to search for my availability as well. As I was still browsing my calendar she started writing down on her business card a "Saturday" appointment. Before I even finish saying "I can't this Saturday", somehow I ended up with that card with a saturday appointment in my hand... I stared at it a sec and gave it back to her saying "I can't this Saturday can we do Sunday?" A long pause and a stare...
-"ok,Let me write down the date for you"
-"it's ok I am putting it here in my calendar"
-"Here Hon, so you won't forget".
There I was again with her card in my hands despite my protests. Sunday 3pm.
And Sunday came! Out and about enjoying the day. The phone rings around 1pm.
-"Jaki? Hi, I'm done with church can you come earlier?"
-"oh, sorry I can't! I'm not even close to home"
-"well I'm here anytime you are ready"
-"sure, Ill be there at 3pm"
-"well honey we could get it done earlier!"
-" uh, I can't, I'm doing something else right now, not even close to your salon. But I am not understanding, didn't we schedule for 3pm? Did I get it wrong?"
I frantically dug into my purse to find the damn card where she wrote the time. After all she told me I could forget!
A looooong pause after that. Did she know I was looking for the card?
-"Listen, I can't be waiting around for you the whole day! I have other things to do! This isn't working!".
When I finally and victoriously pulled the card out of my purse and saw the handwritten words "Sunday 3pm" There was nothing more I could say! She was gone!
