SmartStyle Hair Salon in Harker Heights, TX

This review is for Joanna. She did such a fantastic job on me. I was so nervous but she was so kind and answered all my questions! She gave me exactly what I wanted, when I didn't know if it was possible. She changed my hair that had been the same for many year and it just made me feel so refreshed and different, which I needed. I really recommend Joanna if you are looking to change up your hair, or if you just need an AMAZING hair professional. I cannot wait to see her next time.

I paid $180 for the store manager to not only cause severe damage to my hair to the point my hair feels brittle, but I also didn't get the haircut I asked her for three times. She continued to try to fix the cut and obviously just wasn't getting it even though I explained it to her twice and show her an image. I also had her color my hair asking her for what is in the photo, the outcome of what I got is not even close. The technique for the highlights is all wrong and so are the colors. I'll never go back here again. I spent almost $200 and now I hate my hair more than I did before I walked in.

I took my 16yr old here for a perm. I was very specific about what my daughter wanted and even showed pictures as an example. The gentleman stylist gave attitude as soon as we got there. He looked at the length of her hair and then quoted me a price. I agreed and let his begin. When he was done, her hair looked descent. By the time we got home and the hair began to dry, we discovered that it looked more like a body wave than a perm. There were even parts of her hair underneath that were almost completely straight. We then drove back to salon to show them that it wasn't what we asked for. The manager then proceeded to tell us that he charged us for a body perm, and that what we wanted would've cost more? All she offered to do was redo the under pieces so they matched the rest. Had he quoted us more and given her what she wanted there wouldn't have been as issue. The manager didn't offer any refund or compensation for her stylists' error. Terrible service.

Horrible, insensitive, rude, and condescending hairstylist Dwayne had my 7 y.o. in tears. I brought my daughter here and asked them to wash/condition my daughters hair, and then comb it out (detangle it) That was it. He sent my daughter to the chair instead of the wash station and proceeded to yank, pull, and comb out my baby's hair in its dry tangled state. He didn't use detangler or conditioner even after I asked him to. Said he didn't have any. WOW! I told him to wash and condition her hair first and then detangle it. He said he couldn't and failed to inform me of the extra fee. This grown man had my baby in the chair crying the entire time and was extremely insensitive about it. He was TOO happy to keep combing and yanking her hair. He questioned me in front of a salon full of customers demanding to know what type of shampoo I used on her curly hair. I said the "regular kind" cause at this point I had no desire to converse with this asshole. He insisted in knowing, so I said the first name that came to mind, which was Pantene. His response was "There's the problem right there. The shampoo you use isn't made for her hair and it's drying out her curls" First of all, I've been taking care of her hair her whole life. We have enough Shea butter and coconut oil and natural hair products at home to get us through the apocalypse. We even make gel from flax seeds! This is my youngest daughter and there's three more before her with biracial curly hair. It just so happens that I wanted a break from the hair doing routine and decided to take her to a salon and pay for the service. Her hair has never been cut/processed. This was her 1st time in a hair salon. She was jumping for joy on her way there. It broke my heart to see my baby getting off the chair and walking over to me with her face covered in tears! She just came over and fell on me and sobbed completely broken. Everything in me wanted to shatter his bones for making my baby cry. If he had just listened to the mom of 4 biracial girls with curly hair who's been taking care of their healthy natural hair for 19 years now, my daughter wouldn't have been in tears. Lesson learned on my part at the expense of my baby girl. (If you have mixed hair, do yourself a favor and DO NOT come here) The water was too hot at first, and then too cold when he rinsed her. Barely towel dried her hair. It was dripping with cold water. The temp was 40 degrees outside. She is sick now. Wasn't before our visit. Dwayne asked if I wanted any other services. I said NO. He then tells me that the services provided would cost $41! HA! FOR WHAT? I asked him "HOW?" He raised his voice at me and said "It's $10 for the deep conditioning. $25 cause I had to comb it out before the wash. And the wash is $6!!!!" At this point, I'm simply telling myself not to put hands on this man. The only thing I had enough self control to say to him was "I wish I had been informed of these prices before you went through with the service" I wasn't given a choice in whether I wanted to pay $41 for someone to dry comb, wash, and then yank my baby's hair some more! I would've gladly said HELL NO and taken my happy ass back home and done her hair myself like I usually do! This man should not be allowed to touch a child's head of hair EVER! He needs to be retrained. Being African American doesn't make you a subject matter expert in mixed hair! That would be me! The Caribbean mom that's been caring for this kind of hair for 19 goddamn years! Also scroll through the reviews. Dwayne Hooks has given this salon 5 stars. How convenient? Of course he would! Cause he works there making little kids cry! What a dishonest, no integrity having, POS hairstylist! If I were his boss, I would fire him on the spot. He doesn't deserve the privilege to serve others. He has a nasty attitude and treats his paying customers like garbage.

Silvia did an absolutely amazing job correcting a terrible Cut and partial highlight I received from another salon in Harker Heights. She was kind, professional and friendly. I will be returning to her for all my furniture cuts and colors.
