I am extremely disappointed in the cut and style I received after being very excited for my first official curly cut. I went in for a cut with Allie and I was so excited, I am always afraid of getting my hair cut because of my curly hair. I went to Allie because of her specializing in curly hair for this reason.
I went in wanting to cut my long hair to above shoulder length. I used one of her Instagram posts and past photos of myself with short curly hair for reference. She cut my hair dry to begin, then her "associate" did my wash and scalp treatment; that was fine with me.
Then Allie had another client and the assistant was left to style my hair. I asked her if she was going to be specializing in curls after I found out she just finished school. She said no she really enjoying coloring. She did some special "technique" for making my hair curl. For reference I already have quite curly hair., it does not require any significant effort style to a curl. It was taking quite a long time and when Allie came to check the assistant had been doing it without adding water the whole time. After Allie "checked" it she sprayed my hair with cold water and ran her fingers through it "shaking". Then it was time to defuse after mousse, her assistant did this step as well. She asked me to sit in the salon chair in a position that was uncomfortable for my neck, and I'm still feeling it today. She laughed about the fact that there's an available barbers chair that would be open but did not offer it. I asked to not have it done that way, instead of continuing to defuse upright they put me under the dryer for a good 30 minuets. When I got out my hair had started to dry in gel curls and still not completely dry. It looked horrible. As she tried to shake it out  it just kept getting frizzier and worse. I asked for more layers to shape my face, which Allie made an effort to add but it overall was not helping. I felt overwhelmed ended the experience not having the ability to explain what I needed, but I'm not a professional. It was the most disappointing $125 I have ever spent. I didn't even leave with my hair styled into my natural curls it was a floofy blowout. Allie had taken a before video and did not take an after; she knew it looked bad.
I left the experience incredibly disappointed and feeling horrible at the way I looked after being so excited to work with someone I assumed had experience with curls based on her own words. While I understand assistants need the space to learn there was no teaching happening here and little attempt to recover the situation. I'm just overall incredibly disappointed in the work delivered for the price that was paid and can't see how I could recommend her to anyone. I am not upset at the fact that my hair is short, it's what I wanted. I'm upset at the way I was treated and the style of the cut.

One of my good friends suggested this place for me and it was honestly amazing. Abby did my hair and she was super nice and comfortable to talk to, even tho i have social anxiety she made me feel welcome. Plus this is the first time i've actually liked my hair after leaving a place. most of the time it's too short, uneven or the color is nothing close to what i wanted. Thanks abby! now my hair will be great for prom

Run away from here and don't look back if you have tighter curls.

Despite boasting that they are one of few salons in St. Louis that offers a curly cut, Salon Antebellum is not a place for ALL curls. I have type 4 hair and wanted my curls shaped into a tapered cut that gradually lengthened towards the front. I took off work today, washed, conditioned, styled, dried, and diffused my hair (2 1/2 hour job)  and drove 30 mins for my 2 pm appt. As soon as I walked in, I felt like all eyes were on me. No one else in there looked like me but I figured I was in good hands. I wasn't greeted, but somehow, the receptionist automatically knew who I was. I waited for about 5 mins, and then Allie, the curl specialist came out to get me.

She sat me in her chair and asked what I wanted. I showed her a video and picture of the haircut I wanted. She told me my hair was too short, which I don't agree with. She said that in order for me to achieve that cut, she would have to take off alot of hair. She said we would work on the shape and revisit in 4 months. She also had an "associate" who was shadowing her? I'm not sure. Allie began cutting but she seemed hesitant. I've had curly cuts before and she didn't seem confident in what she was doing. She took very little hair off and cut my curly bang and said she would adjust the cut more after she washed and styled my hair.

At the wash bowl she introduced this product line innersense to me. I've seen that line recently in the curly community, but I haven't seen it used successfully with type 4 hair. She said that I should start using this line and replace the heavy butters and oils that I'm using with my other products. I told her my products don't contain heavy oils or butters and she said ok. She then proceeded with a curl detox to get rid of "heavy oils and butters" which I reiterated that I don't use. Allie and the associate worked together to style my hair. While they were doing that, I could just tell that they weren't familiar with my hair type. It didn't feel right. At one point, Allie walked away for 10-15 mins to work on her next client and left the associate to finish styling my hair.

The associate put me under the dryer and offered me some wine. The wine glass had lip marks on it which deterred me from drinking the wine. About 30 mins into drying, something told me to open my camera on my phone and look at my hair(first pic). It looked HORRENDOUS!!!

I usually have defined, beautiful curls (see the second pic) and that's actually how my hair looked before they washed it, so I was so confused to see that this is what Allie thought my hair should look like after styling. Because Allie was busy, she sent over a random lady to check on me, I told the lady that the salon isn't equipped for my hair type and she went to go get Allie.

Allie asked what the problem was and I told her that the way my hair looked after styling is unacceptable. She said that the organic products she used aren't heavy like the butters and oils I'm used to so the definition wasn't going to be the same. I said to her for the third time, I DO NOT USE BUTTERS OR OILS ON MY HAIR. I told her that maybe I was naive in thinking that the "St. Louis Curl Specialist" would be able to style my curls and I'd like to think that I could go to a curl specialist and get the same experience that one with looser curls would have. She said she wants that too but doesn't have the familiarity with type 4 hair that would make that happen. She apologized and I left. No money was exchanged. My hair was still dripping wet. It looked bad (third pic) and I was embarrassed walking out of there. I felt like there was a secret that only I wasn't aware of and that secret was, I had no business in there and everyone but me knew that. I really wish Allie would've told me from the start that she didn't feel comfortable styling my hair type, that way no additional time would've been wasted, and my dignity would still be intact. Now I'm searching for a stylist that specializes in natural, type 4 hair. Lesson learned.

Made an appointment for simple color touch up & bang trim couple of weeks ago. They only had availability on a Friday at 12.15pm. I took few hours off from my work to be able to make it, also this place is not close by (40 min drive from me)

First and last time here..

I arrived 15-20 minutes early. They told me that my stylist is finishing up. At 12.45pm, my stylist was still taking it slow, wasn't even looking like finishing up. I asked receptionist about the situation and they offered me way more expensive stylist to get started with my hair. After all the wait time, they didn't check on me, not even offer a discount.

I took my business somewhere else. If you value your time, I do not recommend this place.

This place is TERRIBLE!!!  I went there with blond hair wanting a simple highlight of my roots.  I came out of there with UGLY ASHY BROWN HAIR!!  She ruined my hair.  My husband almost had a heart attack.  I have not had dark hair in 30 years.  Now it is going to take a long time to get rid of this.  Plus I have several important events to go to which makes me sick.  DO NO GO THERE!!! They are inexperienced and it is a dump.  She supposedly had 13 yrs experience.  I don't know how or doing what, dogs.
