Red Karma Salon in Chicago, IL

This is an update. I met up with Kelly again and she was super nice and helped me finish my hair. She did my hair so beautifully, was on time, we had lovely conversation, and everything went well. However, I'm not gonna lie, i just don't think she's my person. I contacted her again about a future hair appointment and i didn't get a response. I know it's nothing personal, as she was super ecstatic about me coming back another time but I just can't deal with people like that; communication is so important and i don't know how you can run a business and be lacking in that area. I'd also be very wary of booking her for super early (around 7am) appointments

I saw Jaé today for a wash and finish with trim. This was an amazing experience. I was ready to book my next appointment for she finished. I'm natural and have s time with finding do one who is gentle but can style my hair. She did both! I always thought I just never outgrew being tender headed but I could have slept in her chair. She gave great advice on how to better grow my hair with honest feedback about my hairs current state. So glad I found her. Will most definitely return!

JUST ONE MAJOR ISSUE: I've been coming here for over a year & Kalyn always does a fantastic job with my hair, is timely and always in good spirits. Overall it's a great salon with a pleasant atmosphere EXCEPT for a stylist named Keeta (Keta). I won't talk about what she turns out of her chair - everyone likes something different but her attitude... There was a SLIGHT dryer issue today & whatever issues Keeta had with the other stylist she brought it out in front of 6 clients. She cursed profusely, called them out their names, talked about their shape, breath, whatever she could say to hurt them, even putting her hands in their face. When the stylist remained calm she got mad because she was "fake trying to stay humble". I wasn't sure if this was a Desperate Housewives episode or I was in the hood with a "hood" stylist...and Keeta (Keta) was wrong. Background info: the stylist prepped the dryer, went to mold her client she was putting under same dryer and Keeta (Keta) took the dryer (note: Keeta [Keta] already had a client under a dryer & there're a minimal amount of available dryers in a salon of AT LEAST 5 stylists). Once the client is under the dryer Keeta (Keta) & another stylist are in the very public dryer room in front of 5 clients continuing to talk & giggle about the situation. I will continue to see Kalyn wherever she goes but Keeta (Keta), the woman who works in the room with the dryers, needs some form of self control & anger management. Not cute, definitely not professional.

We are visiting Chicago from Colorado and I took my granddaughter to this salon. She made an appointment with Kalyn for 4:30. We made it to the appointment at 4:00. Kalyn came out and told us that she was behind at 4:30 and we were looking at an hour wait. We agreed to wait. Kalyn did not show back up until 6:30 stating that she thought we left and she would be with us shortly. She shows back up at 6:45 and tells my granddaughter that her hair was too soft to hold the style. We had been waiting on her for almost 3 hours for her to say her hair was too soft. Very unprofessional and ignorant girl! I'm surprised she has any customers. No respect for your time. We are on vacation and we do not want to spend time waiting around. Kalyn could have looked at her hair when we first got there and made that determination. You try and patronize these black businesses but they make it extremely hard. Never again! Pitiful! Sad refection on Chicago!

Jazmine Turner is the best stylist I have had; not only is she professional but she provides a comfortable and welcoming environment for new and long term clients. I change my hair styles frequently and she always does a great job and keeps my goals in mind.
