Ramas Hair Braiding in Indianapolis, IN

Tried this place and loved it. Had appointment at nine and I want NO ONE else doing my hair. About 40 min from my house but worth every mile.

I've been to Rama's twice. Appointments are not necessary as the run on a sort of first come first serve basis, depending on what type of style you want. There was an assembly line of braiders whose skills are limited to singles and box braids. If you want either of those styles, you're served quickly. If you want a more intricate style I.e weaves or twists, you have to wait for a more skilled worker to become available. The braided on the first trip was young, but her skills at singles were commendable. Rama's provides the hair, which is a plus because I didn't have to worry about buying the hair...The main problem with this was that they don't have the hair color that I wantEd, so I had to settle for a different color.

Ok, so the visit was today. I am diabetic and under a doctors care for various other issues. I, unfortunately have to take some meds that make me drowsy. During this trip I fell asleep several times. I can definitely understand how that would frustrate a braider.  There were two branders working on my braids. The problem was that they were extremely unprofessional in how they addressed the issue. I was yelled at, endured sarcastic remarks, talking at me in a different language to each other in order to describe, apparently, their frustrations at me. My hair was jerked by one braider several times when I nodded off and expressed her frustration by folding her arms in protest. I apologized  profusely for falling asleep and tried to explain why it was happening. They were extremely unsympathetic to my plight. I felt foolish and embarrassed. I was so upset and hurt when I left , I forgot my purse. The coldest part about their behavior was that once the finished, they simply turned their backs and walked away. No thank you. No, would you like to have a mirror to check the work. Nothing. I never exhibited any hostile or resentful attitudes towards them. I was apologetic. Professionalism was extremely lacking during this experience.  Normally I would give a very generous tip... Not this time. I will not be returning.

I am very disappointed in my service that I received today. I took a half day off of work today (I'm an educator) in preparation for my birthday tomorrow. I called the following day and told them what I wanted, but they told me they are not doing "appointments" but first come first serve. I couldn't leave until 10:30 and I live an hour away. I wanted to come here though because I heard several people rave about them. To make the long story short, I told them what I wanted. Knotless braids extra long and box parting. My hair is cut short in the back so she told me my hair was too short for knotless in the back, so I decided to get the regular braids but still box parting. Each time I would touch my hair or feel it, it was always a grown or moan.. so I just let her do her thing after being reassured. I get up to use the bathroom, and see that I look like CINDY from Jimmy Neutron.  and the audacity to try to charge me $250 dollars for THIS! I told them I didn't like it, very respectfully. They (manager, lady braiding my hair.. heck the whole shop) try to argue with me, but I simply say I don't like it. She proceeds to snip the braids and when I offer to pay her something.. she walks off. Waste of time and had to cancel all my plans for my birthday tomorrow. Thank God though that I can go somewhere else before my trip at the end of the month. Moral of the story, if you want versatile braids besides MICROS, SINGLES, and SENEGALESE TWIST.. go to black women who is cultured in styling of braids. I asked her to use Ebin edge control on my hair to make my hair sleek (I have 4c hair).. she refused at first! The she "slaps" a little on after she notices I notice she wasn't using it. Like I'm DONE! I recommend @flawlessbraidsbyjai on Instagram!! She's amazing and very versatile.. and $220 for braids I asked for PLUS BUTT LENGTH. I originally wanted butt length, but I refuse to pay $300!!!

I've been to Rama's twice now. Once for my daughter and once for myself. They're ok. You can get in the same day, just go early.

$150 seems to be their favorite number. I got my daughter some box braids-$150; I asked for some cornrows in a bun-$150. Someone came in asking for short braids-$150, I don't know. They said they charge you by length-but mine didn't have to be long, because I just wanted a bun-but I also didn't have to go forward with it-so I agreed to it. I do like the fact that they supply the hair so that's something I don't have to worry about. I guess that's part of the reason I didn't mind paying the $150 they quoted me.

All the braiders don't have the same abilities. So if you want something outside of box braids and micros, I'd stop by or call and ask about it first.
Not sure if I'll be back. I didn't have a terrible experience, just felt like they were limited in what they could offer. There were two ladies standing around with a couple people waiting-but because they could only one thing- other customers had to wait longer. BraidLand down the street offers a loyalty program; Rama's could benefit from a loyalty program, especially because I have two daughters who I like to keep in braids so it would help me. But we'll see.

First time at this establishment and was pleasantly satisfied. They were fast yet thorough. It took them a total of 3 hours to complete and yes at times it was 3 women on my head. I just made an appointment for my daughters to get their braids done here.
