PENZONE Salon + Spa Gahanna/New Albany in Columbus, OH

I had a great experience today getting a cut and style by Storm. She did such an amazing job! I would absolutely recommend her. I gave this review a 4 instead of a 5 because this location does not live up to what I expect from a Penzone. It's more like a small town small warehouse made into some salon seats. Impressed with my stylist, not impressed with the physical place.

I am historically hard to please by hairdressers but after meeting Anthony at Penzone Upper Arlington I see that is because actual talent in hair cutting is just extremely rare. I moved from Los Angeles (great hairdresser, but surly) to Richmond, IN where I tried 2 or 3 salons here, then tried a salon in Indy twice but when I had to travel to Columbus to buy Lindburg glasses anyway, I checked out the salons here and I AM SO GLAD. I was impressed by Anthony's resume on the website and he lives up to that and more. The thing is this: hairdressers today hide behind doing great color and having great products to fluff up a potentially crappy cut. No harm done because that is what 99% of people want. But I use no products at all, insist on having clean natural hair at all times, and Anthony, trust me on this, KNOWS HOW TO CUT HAIR. I've had two cuts with Anthony; the first totally blew me away it was so great - I have kind of straight hair (but some places kind of bent) and wear it short but not too short. Think about it: no products. It has to fall right and it has to be even, with layers that make sense, and no, I don't want to hear about the cowlick and Anthony had no problem with that, of course never mentioned it. The second cut, Anthony first took time to really drill down, was there anything about that cut that needed to be tweaked, bugged me or didn't work out great? So he could adjust the next cut. NO, it was great. And here is the other very important thing - I can't take smells (thus the no hair products allowed). The air filtration system in the salon is excellent; it certainly makes a big difference. Also Anthony accommodates me with no personal scented products on my appointment date. Thank you Anthony. Also, thanks to Jasmine, Anthony's very efficient and enthusiastic but low key assistant.

Carson is THE best! Detail and client oriented. If you are looking for a blonde specialist or any advice on a style she will deliver. There is a wait list, so don't make it so I can't get in lol

Disappointing experience with balayage that I have to wait a week now to get fixed Was excited to try this salon and get some color after several acquaintances recommended it. Wanted a bright blond but walked out with nearly orange instead. Not only did I loose an entire afternoon that I specifically took off work for, but it took almost 20 minutes of talking to the call center (you can't even call the salon direct) to schedule a new appointment to have this fixed. I now have to wait nearly an entire week to have this corrected which is very upsetting and life disruptive. Overall not a good experience. Consumer beware. I had a pretty disappointing manicure experience at this salon. They started 20 minutes after my original appointment time and I had to wait to check out as well. The technician was friendly but the manicure was average at best. I probably won't be returning to this location.
