Peles Salon Altoona in Altoona, PA

I found the best stylist (Sam) at Peles in Altoona a little over a year ago. How sad, disappointed and frustrated I am that I had an appointment on March 5, but when I showed up, the salon was closed and the building was for sale! The next day I got a postcard in the mail offering Altoona customers 50% off for one service at the Johnstown or Greensberg location. Too little, too late. I would have contacted my customers who had close appointments to let them know. I left work early to make that appointment. Most business owners know that location and convenience are key to customers. Johnstown is not convenient, but because I thought so much of the salon and hair stylist, I might have been willing to continue with Peles, if they had thought more of me and my time. I am an avowed Aveda junkie and decided to give this salon a shot. The stylist was very personable and nice and gave me the layers in my (curly) hair that I had asked for. I had to leave town the day after the appointment for 10 days, and once I washed my hair I saw that the back layers were very uneven and misscut. I asked several different people and they all said (on their own) that the cut looked wrong/unfinished/uneven. When I returned I asked if I could come in and have him fix it--literally a three minute job of just cutting a layer off that was clearly too long. I went in and the stylist agreed that "he could see how I might not like it". He asked the owner what the charge would be--the owner told him that it would be the price of a full haircut ($35) because I was not coming in during the 5 day window which they require. I explained that I was out of town during that period but they wouldn't budge. I won't be making another appointment here and it's a shame for them because I was prepared to buy all my Aveda products here, and between me and my husband and kids we easily spend $800/year on their skin and hair products. Bottom line: nice stylist/rigid owner=no return trip for me.

I had a horrible experience with this salon. I made appointments for a bridal party, and had asked prices before making the appointments, because I was covering the bridal party. I was told that since no updo's were being done, and the party was wearing there hair down with curls the charge would be 30 to 40 dollars a girl depending on the length. My Bridal hair would be 115 for the day of and it would be 75.00 for a trial. On the day of the trial they did one style, and I found out the day of the wedding that they were charging full price of 115.00 for the trial, and I was never given an option to try any other style!!! I had already paid a 350.00 deposit for make up for the party as well (which was cancelled because I did not like the make up they did for the trial), and was told that when we arrived the day of the wedding I would be refunded the difference in price.The website states that a shampoo and style is 30, and the girls had to have their hair washed, dry and ready to go before arriving. Long story short I was charged 68 per girl just to run a curling through their hair, and they charged me another 130.00 the day of my wedding. One of the bridesmaid's hair fell out before we even got to the church. There were only five of us, and I was mislead and ripped off. I made several calls to attempt to discuss these issues, due to being overcharged and the one bridesmaid's hair that fell out less than a half hour after we left the salon. I was hung up on once. Two times I was told the owner would call me and never received a return call. I called again, and they told me there is nothing they can do, and they gave the message to the owner. This salon is unprofessional, and a rip off. Please think twice before trusting your wedding day to these people. I gave them over five chances to talk to me about the over charge, and the service that we received. It is obvious that once they have your money you can forget it. Terrible customer service, and rude owner!!
