Miko Studios in Alexandria, VA

I visited Miko for the first time today for a natural curly cut with Kathaleana. I thoroughly enjoyed my service and was appreciative of her time and attention. My appointment was at 12pm and she started right on time. I was a little apprehensive about getting a wash n go because I'm a twist out girly but she did a great job and eased my nerves. I was also in and out of the salon in less than three hours from start to finish which I also appreciated. I'll definitely return for a cut in the future.

I was super excited to book an appointment at Miko especially since their Instagram page and website looks so good and exactly what I wanted. However, when I was at my appointment (single overall color and trim), it was nothing luxurious...My appointment was scheduled first thing in the morning but the first red flag was my stylist running about 30 minutes late. She didn't seem too welcoming and really stressed. I understand we all have bad mornings, so I shrugged off the delay. Throughout the appointment, she barely engaged in any conversation with me so it wasn't that comfortable for me. Once my color was washed out and she moved on to my cut and her next client arrived. The next client probably had been waiting a good 20/30 minutes until the stylist acknowledged that she was behind and that she will get to her when she's done with me. The client was patient at first, but the lack of updates from the stylist and waiting another 20ish minutes, she became rightfully upset. This made me really uncomfortable since you can feel the awkwardness, stress and lack of customer service. The stylist kept telling her she was almost done with me half way through blow drying my hair...The stylist ended up just blow drying my hair with out styling it at all. Left it all frizzy and left me feeling unsatisfied... I want to give them another try because of their amazing work on their IG but really don't want to feel that uncomfortable at a hair salon again

I wish I could say that I even got a haircut here and leave that review but instead I have this story... I scheduled an appointment during my break and was looking forward to a nice, skilled and professional haircut after a long time neglecting my hair. The stylist was running late and when I walked in, the client had completely wet hair and they were just moving to the chair. I waited up front for 35 minutes. By the time she was done, I told her I was worried about time because I had to get to work. I ended up leaving bc I wanted the full experience and she said it would take longer than I had available. For whatever reason, I tried again the next week with this stylist and it happened again. She texted me while I was in the parking lot, and asked if I could come 25 minutes later than my appointment. There was zero apology or acknowledgement of the inconvenience and that it was her mistake. In fact, she talked down to me and explained that booking around lunch time is always going to be late and if I want it on time I should book in the morning. ThATs HoW mOSt SaLonS WoRK. So, it's my fault that she is late, somehow. I am an adult paying for a service and it is not my job to manage your time. I don't know what to say. Apparently, the cuts are great, just, also this.

I've been to miko studios since they opened and there's a reason why i only go to this place. I'm pretty particular and picky with my hair but Donna she goes by @unique_donna on instagram, she is so patient, informative, transparent, and so talented in her work. It really amazes me how every time I visit she just does exactly what i ask for or better. Also all of the staff here are so friendly and a great vibe all around. They really make sure you're taken care of. I definitely highly recommend this place. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

Donna turns hair goals into REALITY!!! After 2 years into the pandemic and several inches of regrowth... Donna was recommended to me by a close friend and I have not looked back since! From the first test strand appointment, Donna has taken my collection of screenshots, colors, and my ifs, ands, and buts, and turned my thoughts into my actual hair. She walked me through the whole lightening process and how much my hair could handle -- she would NOT turn (or burn lol) my hair platinum in one session because in order to keep it healthy (and we both like my hair to stay in tact!). I am now counting down the days until my third appointment!! If you've got big hair dreams or even just a thought to have fun with your hair, I highly recommend seeing Donna. *Updated to add my Big Chop and third color session so in love
