Julia Dominican Hair Salon in Pikesville, MD

I have been living in Baltimore County six years now, and have been looking for a place to call home regarding my hair care... After today I can happily say Julia's is that spot. I walked in today feeling incredibly embarrassed at the state of my hair. Julia and Maria were nothing but welcoming and understanding. I knew I needed a good wash, and Maria did an amazing job. I honestly could've cried my scalp felt so much better after the wash & deep condition alone. Julia recommended a hot oil conditioner to address the dryness of my hair and then the roller set before blowout and flat iron to style. Julia then explained the process of what was done to repair my hair so I can keep being treated for my natural texture. I also got to meet some regulars - overall it was just a really great experience and I just had to come on here and write a review about my positive experience. I will most certainly be returning. Spacious salon that encourages social distancing .. this is very important to me. I'm definitely a person that wants to be able to take care of my hair, nails, etc. and feel safe doing so during this crazy pandemic. I called the business number which appears to be the owners cell or maybe forwarded to her number after hours.l and she answered immediately. I went to the salon that same morning (no appointment) and stylists weren't there yet (as owner said) but the person that handles shampooing, etc. was there and let me in. It didn't take long for her to start in my hair as there was only one other client there. First stylist that arrived was a lady named Veronica and she did my blow out and clipped my ends. I'm a natural with 4c hair and I recently moved from out of town where Dominican salons are plentiful so I know the real deal, this was it. Veronica made me very comfortable and obviously knew the importance of hair care. Good experience and this will be my go-to salon.

I relocated here from New York 16 years ago, back home I was used to getting my hair done by the Dominican's because the know a lot about hair. When I got here there were very few and I mean very few spots here that compared and then I found Julia!! Julia started out with 1 small shop and has since expanded to two big beautiful salons. Julia herself is AMAZING! She's professional, knowledgeable and has the most lovely spirit!! Always positive!! Her professionalism and attention to detail has spread amongst her staff, they all are great as well. She specializes in all hair types and has been doing my hair and both my daughters hair for almost 15 years. Pricing is fair and they don't cut corners. She's also great at troubleshooting specific hair issues and will recommend and work with you to get your hair problem under control. This is the best Dominican hair salon hands down, you won't ever leave disappointed. She offers free hot coffee, cookies and snacks as well while you wait as well as free Wi-fi. It's a WIN-WIN

Typically I am not a review writer but I am a reader so I feel obligated to warn others . To start off I have natural hair very thick and curly .. I just recovered from a big chop and very proud of how my hair has flourished and grown. It was time for me to get a trim so I decided to go to Julia for a wash and set . I normally go to the Dominicans for a wash set and trim twice a year at Terezas beauty salon but my sister and mom go to Julia and it's close by so I gave it a chance. I asked the shampoo lady if they had shampoo for natural hair with no sulfates and she said yes and began to wash my hair ensuring me my curls would be fine. I was not satisfied with the wash and set my hair was very frizzy and not straight. I told her I was upset with the results and she insisted on straightening it again. I told her no and that I didn't want my hair damaged. Fast forward a couple days later I wash my hair and it all falls out and breaks off. I took pictures and documented . Julia gave me back my money after I showed her what happened and insisted on fixing it. I told her that I didn't want anyone from that salon to put their hands in my head again . She gave me her number and told me to notify her in a couple days if my curls returned . I notified her weeks later that my hair was still damaged and had no curls and she didn't respond . Fast forward to today it has now been 3 months since they've straightened my hair and it's still coming out and breaking off not just a little , an extreme amount. The whole perimeter of my hair is now shorter than the rest . It's clumps of it falling out every day. I am so embarrassed and upset to the point that I just want to chop it all off. I can't even wear my natural hair out right now . I am so disgusted by it. Please please please do not come to this salon if you have naturally curly hair, they will ruin it to no return .

My daughter and I used to be regulars at this location. I discovered the Dominican hair process quite a few years ago. At the time, most of the shops in the area were all centralized in the southeastern part of the city, which was inconvenient. I originally began my first experiences with Dominican salons in New York and was eventually happy to see the shops popping up here, so when this shop and others began establishing business closer to suburban areas, I was pleased. Out of pure frustration of going to shops that I had been accustomed to with long waits and little to no value for my time, I thought this was the answer to my impatience with the benefit of my hair looking good in record time without sitting for hours at a time. Initially, the staff were very friendly people. Julia was my go to stylist because she knew how to get the drop curls in my longer hair just right. It had become so that I did not want anyone else to do my hair because I thought her attention to detail was good. Over time, I thought the increase in pricing had become way too much, especially when having to pay extra for two people with long hair. Not to mention, everyone had to be tipped from the shampoo girl to the roller set person, it was just way too much. I have to add that like another reviewer pointed out, I found that the friendly nature of some staff changed once her second location opened. I am truly big on customer service, so if you do not finish how you start that is a problem for me. One should never become so important that customer treatment becomes questionable. Additionally, I found that my time was not as valued as it had been in the past. If I abandoned the people who did my hair for so many years in the past to patronize a salon that had me hooked under the premise of efficiency, value, service and good final product to take me back to where I started, then I do not need to patronize your establishment any longer. Though I never had a problem with the final result of my hair as long as she did it, I refused to pay my money times two and not feel valued as a customer. I remember a couple of times, she took people ahead of me when I knew I was first. She tried to apologize for what was going on, but I soon realized that some people were getting better service than others and that is something that I cannot tolerate.
