Imago A Salon For Hair in Richmond, VA

Absolutely terrible experience and I felt incredibly prejudiced against. My 3C curls are ruined. Came in wanting my dark hair to go lighter and was gaslighted by my hair stylist, claiming that my hair is to blame for not lifting too well, when I brought up my concerns about my hair literally looking the same as it did when I walked in after applying all over color. I honestly broke down crying. I refused to go ahead with my highlighting service when nothing was being done to correct this mistake. I also had to literally plead with my stylist to give me a proper haircut when she decided to just trim my hair, slap some curling conditioner on my hair and call it a "curly cut." She kept spraying water to make it look more manageable although admitted curly haircuts are usually done dry. My hair has fully dried now and my curls are so uneven and they look terrible. The front desk staff are also incredibly rude and unprofessional on the phone and in person. The front desk attendant threw my receipt at me after I was done there. Highly do not recommend this salon for anyone wanting to go from black to a lighter color with 3C above curly hair. If you want to leave a hair salon feeling like you actually got what they paid for, this place is NOT it. Completely unprofessional and make dark haired girls feel very gaslighted that I had to tell my stylist up front that she was not listening to what I wanted. Paid $215 for this absolute mess. Why would I want to go to a hair salon to achieve this base color result when a CVS box dye could easily achieve the same??

After receiving a recommendation from a friend, I chose to book an appointment here for a curly girl cut about a month ago. Prior to my visit I had very long wavy hair that was fairly damaged at the ends. I hadn't gotten a good cut in a few years and decided it was time. I was looking forward to having a new style and clearing my hair of all my dead ends, however I was totally displeased by the results. My stylist asked if I wanted layers and I said sure why not, I was already cutting off at least 5-6 inches and I had never had layers before. Once it was dried and curly I realized the shape was so unbalanced. The layers were random and completely choppy. I have felt so horrible with this cut for the past month and recently went to another salon to fix it up a little and my stylist there even made a comment that it was uneven and she questioned if the person who had cut my hair knew what she was doing. After a good tip (I hadn't realized what my hair really looked like) and purchasing a small size of a recommended product the haircut ended up being almost $100!! I have never felt so bad about my hair and just threw it up into a ponytail everyday, however after talking to another hair professional I just had to leave a review.

I have 3c curls that I've been trimming myself for the past 6 years or so. Needless to say, I'm not super comfortable getting my hair cut as all my past experiences have ended in varying degrees of disappointment.. But, I felt I could trust the stylists at Imago. I came in for a face frame with Taylor to help me transition my hair to a different part and add more of a bang. She did a wonderful job and checked in with me about every decision before cutting. I couldn't be happier with the results. Even from just a quick trim, I'm feeling that post-salon confidence for the first time! Thank you!

Worst case scenario -- we got a call that my mother-in-law in Richmond was gravely ill. We dropped everything and drove from Florida to Richmond to be with her. I missed my appointment with my hairdresser in Florida as a result. Mother-in-law passes away and I'm faced with attending the funeral with what looks like a chia pet on my head. Chrissy to the rescue! Imago squeezed me, a stranger, in and Chrissy gave me a gorgeous cut. My hair is thick, wavy, and unruly and I have to be very careful with who cuts my hair. Knowing Imago specializes in curly hair I gave them a try and am so glad I did. Thank you Chrissy for bailing me out!!

I absolutely love this place. I have curly hair probably around 2c-ish and they cut it so perfectly. I also got my hair dyed and that came out really beautiful. I always feel like I'm getting ready to go on a hair commercial after I visit this place. Take advantage of the lot next to them, it's super useful on the weekends.
