I found my stylist Chris Ragland after asking a co-worker "who does your hair?" That was about 10+ years ago. Easy scheduling, up front pricing, no surprises. Chris makes your appointment fun and relaxing. He always provides a little drink (tea, soda, water) and if you so desire, a little chocolate on occasion. He listens to what you want and offers suggestions, but never pushy. He currently also styles my college aged daughter's hair. We love him. So will you.

Chris Ragland has been doing my hair for over a decade...and every single time I get several compliments in between appointments.  Hair cut or hair color, there is no one better than Chris.  He cares about each person seating in his chair and he plans ahead to your appointment to give you new ideas.  I look forward to each appointment.

Amy is nothing short of fantastic! She truly listens to you if/when you explain what you want your hair to look like then follows through with your ideas.  If you need style suggestions, she's equally great and will take the time to look at your face shape, hair texture, etc. and come up with a plan that actually works for you.  She has always accommodated my scheduling requests, even on really short notice. Her prices are the most reasonable I've found in the Durham/Chapel Hill area.  And she's incredibly friendly, going out of her way to make you feel comfortable during your visit to Hair by Design. I'm a Durham native and have tried numerous stylists over the years -- I'm sticking with Amy!!  P.S. I'm the one pictured on the far right above.

I have been keeping a secret for many years and today I will share it with you. Chris Ragland is the best hair stylist on the east coast. I was driving over an hour to get my hair cut and colored before I met Chris 20 years ago. I often have people ask me who is my hairstylist. A few weeks ago a stranger stopped me in a restaurant to exclaim "Your haircut is perfect" and again I was asked "Who does your hair?" Friends and family have switched to Chris Ragland for their haircuts and highlights and you likely will too. Just don't tell anyone else. We may not be able to get an appointment! :-)

Had my first hair cut there today, after cutting my own hair for awhile (due to several overpriced and awful haircuts). Amy greeted my by name when I came in, even though she was working with another customer - I know, easy to spot when you know someone is coming, but that's great customer service.

The one best thing, though - Amy LISTENS. She listened to my brief horror story of former haircuts gone bad, and then she listened to me when I told her exactly what I wanted - a wash and wear layered style that doesn't take a lot of "fixing", but can be styled - or put back in a headband when I'm having a bad hair day. She met the mark. My hair looks good and feels good, and It's cut in away that it can be washed, hand-scrunched, and let go.
