Don the Hairstylist in Reno, NV

Moved here from NY and was worried i wouldn't find a salon that was current. Well i am so happy to have met Don. Once i sat in his chair and we discussed my hair and its condition i knew i was in good hands. He is a professional and has many years of experience. His knowledge of products and the industry is impressive. I walked out of the salon with a beautiful cut and new color and i will continue to see him. Bravo!

I have never written a review before in my life--that's how much my experience at Harrison Braun meant to me.  I have medium to long length, thick naturally wavy hair that for most of my life, seems to intimidate most hairstylists.  I have gone through more stylists in the past 10 years than I can even remember--one stylist I actually went to exclusively for a few years (and I've seen 3 since I left her) had, in all honesty, gotten lazy--and looking back, I now realize that she was not as talented as she thought she was.  It was the same thing every time until one day I woke up and realized the weave I was getting had now turned my hair into an unnatural-looking bright solid blonde helmet over the darker hair underneath.  To my horror, I realized whenever I pulled my hair into a ponytail, the bright blonde helmet now turned into a bright blonde skunk streak on top with a few bright blonde streaks around my ears--all thanks to the time-saving cheap ill-done partial weave (all the better to be able to cram more victims into the day, right?).  My requests for a change-- long layers and a more natural color (my hair is naturally a dirty dishwater blonde) that I wanted infused with a few highlights and a few lowlights--seemed to fall on deaf ears.  When I insisted, I was told my hair would need to be dyed dark brown as a first step--as if this was the start of a long drawn-out process.  What a joke!  She dyed my hair and I never went back.  Since, I had so-called long layers which turned out more like a shelf, I dyed my own hair twice which turned into a coppery red-blonde disaster and my now waist-length long-shelfy-layered hair was hacked off to shoulder length when I requested mid-back length.  WTF?  I HAVE SEEN OTHER WOMEN IN RENO WITH GREAT HAIR!  I have even asked these women for referrals but for some reason I could never get the same results.  And, believe me, I'm not difficult--I believe in giving the stylist free-reign and I do not bat an eye at paying good money...AND I'm loyal when I find someone I like.   I was about to just forget about ever finding a good stylist and just live with the fuzzy brassy afteraffects of dying my own hair mixed with the gray that was now coming in and let it all grow out (I now shudder at the thought of having that grown-out half-brassy half-dishwater with a sprinkling of gray we see all the time on those women who have "given up"--OMG!) and then I found Don and Kendra at Harrison Braun.  In one sitting (well, two since Don fell ill due to no fault of his own while he was fixing the color of my hair) they restored my faith in humanity, I mean, hairstylists.  My hair is gorgeous! and it's EXACTLY what I have been requesting from so many stylists over the years...well, except for the long layers (but maybe once my hair grows a little longer I'll try that again).  Their goal for color is to create just the right combination of color that will enhance your natural beauty--your eyes, your skin--I have not had so many compliments in a very long time!  It'll be six weeks in a couple days since they worked on my hair and I have to tell you that it's growing out in such a way that the roots are barely noticable!  These folks are young, enthusiastic, extremely talented, keep themselves up-to-date, and they're full of energy--not full of themselves.  You can even go to their website harrisonbraunsalon.com and book your own appointment without having to call (which is what I did).  So, if you are looking for a change, if your hairstylist has stopped listening to you, or you're just looking for someone to do what's right for you and your hair, go see Don and Kendra.  I promise you...you will absolutely not be disappointed.

Josie is by far the most amazing woman ever! She does wonders for your hair and gives really good life advice as well. When it comes to being down to earth, this gal has it down, all while whipping your hair into fabulous shape.

This place is hip, clean and friendly. I loved my cut and will go back for a color soon. I have tried many a salon in Reno and by far this one impresses me the most.

The staff over at Harrison Braun are wonderful.  I called them after a terrible color job at another salon and they were able to help me out.  They're  closed Sundays and Mondays, but they're quick to return your call when they get in.  Great customer service!  

The salon has a modern look with Italian influences.  It has the look of a high-end salon, but the prices are just right.  You have three choices for prices.  You can have an expert do your hair (which is pretty expensive, but the stylist's experience makes it totally worth it), you can have a junior stylist do your hair (medium level, with some supervision, medium price, a little more costly than your average hair salon) or you can have a student stylist work on your hair.  The student stylist is FULLY supervised by the owner (Donnie Harrison), but the price is great for those of us on a budget.

The only reason the salon doesn't get 5 stars is because the stylist I had was a little rough when combing my thick, curly hair (start from the ends and work your way up).  The end results and overall experience was well worth driving across town.  They'll even offer you snacks and water with lemon.  Just be careful placing the water cup on the salon counter, its beveled and the cup slides off (oops).

The salon was able to fix my hair which was a little mermaid red to a more natural irish red.  Amazing resutls!
