Delphinium Salon in Kansas City, MO

I wish I could give zero stars. I am mortified by my experience and so is everyone I've told about it (hairstylist friends). It is so bad that a stylist told me it's "too bad and too damaged to fix at this point and we need to just deep condition and hope that it fades with time."

I went in to see Melissa for a highlight. I came out 5.5 hours later with severely broken hair, the front of my head purple, the rest gray, and orange roots. It is so damaged that it feels like straw from being so over processed. I have so many split ends now after a haircut one week ago and fresh expensive extensions I got last week also. I will need to cut several inches off of my brand new extensions and hard earned grown out healthy hair now due to breakage from this appointment. Many of the split ends aren't just split but are frayed into 8-10 ends like they've been fried. I've been growing out my front pieces for over a year and other areas for 3 years. Now they are breaking off 4-5 inches from the bottom now which must be from our appt because I had a cut last week where I left with healthy strands.

I moved recently and I asked for a highlight, bringing my formula notes from my previous stylist to show what I normally had done. From the beginning, Melissa was put off by this and acted like I was so weird for showing the formula to give her an idea of what tones I like on my hair. She told me she uses a different brand And would do her best. I am reasonable and thought of course that's great. (This is important because when I complained about my appt the following day, she blamed the entire experience on the fact she was given formula notes.) Anyway, she double booked me and proceeded to apply foils for over 2.5 hours. Think about that - the back hairs had foils in for THAT long. She kept leaving me to go to her other client. When I was finally done being foiled, I was told that she didn't have the volume of processor I'd said doesn't fry my hair and she uses what she had (higher volume). Then I was brought to the back to sit under heat for 10 min then to sit and process and she'd be back. OVER AN HOUR LATER, I had to go find her in the front to remind her I still existed. She was with her other client doing her hair. An hour and 20 min of processing since finishing foiling (and multiple hours after foiling the back of my head), I was rinsed. Then left to sit again. Finally, her other client was done and she came to tone me. That's when she started blaming me for the formula. She kept saying things like "when people try to give formulas instead of letting me do it my way, it doesn't turn out right." Red flag that things weren't going well. Anyway, she blew me dry and I could immediately see orange roots. She then went to the bowl to fix it for an HOUR. End result - purple and gray broken hair with orange roots is what I left with 5.5 hrs later for a simple highlight appt. I got there at 3 pm and got home at 9 pm, and I was left alone much of the appt. I was charged $350!

I did not receive a $350 service. I wish I could take it back as I now have very damaged hair, will need to cut length off brand new extension, have lost hard earned healthy length I've been growing out, and the whole front of my hair is breaking 4 inches off with purple and gray hair. I reached out the next day and asked for a 50 percent refund and I feel that is being very generous. The expectation when people make appts and agree to an amount is that they will receive a service that does not cause damage and that is done in a professional manner. I did not receive that.

She refused, despite having offered to have me come back to fix the color portion with more highlights while I was still at the appt (basically acknowledging it looked bad). She had even said "would you even WANT to come back?" - a sign of a bad hair job. But my hair cannot handle being fixed with more highlights as the integrity has been compromised. Nothing can give me the damage free hair except for cutting my hair, which I do not want to have to do as I've been growing it and paying for extensions. I asked for the refund and she blamed me bringing in formula notes then told me a 5.5 hr appt is worth 500 dollars. This highlight appt shouldn't have been 5.5 hours. It was because I was left alone to overprocess then try to fix her mistakes. RUN!

I took a chance when looking for a new salon.  I've never been happier that I did.  My hair is something I've always been overly particular about because I'm super blonde.  It's always intimidating walking into a salon where you know no one and weren't referred by someone (which I've NEVER done!). I immediately loved it here. Melissa is literally essential in my life now ;)  She is an amazing stylist and I almost felt like she read my mind!!  An appointment with her is worth every single penny & every single minute it takes!  I also love that there is no unnecessary "fake" talk being forced!  Melissa is a master at her craft!

This is the cutest salon in KC! All the hairstylists are super friendly and welcoming! The salon sells amazing hair products for you to take home to keep your hair looking fresh. I have booked a few appointments with Lexi Carley and she always does an amazing job and has me looking my best. She specializes in balayage and women's haircuts! She does the best curls as well as fun braids. I would definitely go check it out and book an appointment!

I had such a great experience at the salon yesterday! I was seeking a brighter and blonder color than what I've experienced around KC. I let Melissa know I wanted to stay as far away from brassy as possible. I showed her pictures of what I was going for for my wedding and she nailed it. She was honest and to the point with what was possible in the first session taking my dark brown hair to bright blonde. She was meticulous in making sure we got bright enough and hit the tone spot on (which isn't easy to do).

Kudos to you Melissa! Already excited for my follow-up appointment!

This salon is great and so cute too! I've been following Lexi Carley for a few years now and she's amazing at what she does! She specializes in balayage and women's cuts, but she's awesome at men's cuts and color as well, which is what I go to her for. The salon employees are always super friendly and welcoming, and they sell great products to keep your hair looking as good as the day you go home with it.
