I was passing through Marshall (the place I spent my high school years in the last millenium) on my drive to the east coast. I was really needing a hair cut. I mean needing a hair cut so badly I was feeling self concious about my appearance. I did a Google search looking for a place to stop and picked Camp Barber. What a great experience!! This was an atmosphere that was beyond Floyd the Barber's wildest imagination. (You know Floyd from Andy of Mayberry.) Anyway this was a really unique place, I got right in for a cut. I have had a few scarey hair cuts lately. Kayla listened to what I wanted and gave me exactly the cut I asked for. We also had a fun conversation while Kayla went about getting me the style I was hoping for.

My husband just got his hair cut there today, by a young man who said he was new. We are heading out of town this afternoon for a wedding this weekend, and they fit my husband in last-minute, which was nice. My husband usually cuts his own hair and does a good job, but we wanted something a little nicer because of the wedding we're attending. But it was not a great cut. As soon as my husband walked in the door I could tell it was uneven and choppy on the top. One side was noticeably longer than the other, and there were sections in the middle and back that were longer than the rest as well. He had to go clean it up and even it out himself, which defeats the purpose of going to a shop to get it done by a "professional", since he could have done a better job at home and spent nothing. Sounds like the young man needs more training. Not a great experience.

I walked in randomly for a cut because I'm very local, about 5 minute walk from the storefront. I asked if they were appointment only even though it had "walk-in" hours posted in the window and they said no, but they had been unusually swamped in the past week. They had a relatively new barber in the shop and he said he could give me a cut after the person he had in his chair, so I waited. The atmosphere is typical barbershop - very man-centric which is fine and expected. The guy who cut my hair was also fine. He was nice and made it clear he was newer. I have a mixture of thick Asian hair and straight European hair because of my background and its hard to cut. He did a decent fade but definitely missed some patches in the upper circumference of my head - which is totally understandable given the low light of the shop. I think the guy just needed some additional lighting to see the difference between my cut hair and uncut hair. I had to go home and fix some of it myself, which isn't ideal but I looked fine afterwards - not stellar, just okay. Anyway, it was totally passable and cheap. The only downside was I hoped he would trim my beard and he didn't ask (possible time constraints since I walked in randomly).

Fantastic first visit! Jeremy did a great job on my son's hair. He took his time and gave my son the royal treatment. The atmosphere was friendly and fun. We will definitely be back!
