Before & After Hair Design Inc in Lynchburg, VA

I based my rating on my entire experience and Yelp's rating/language, with 2 out of 5 stars stated being, "Could've been better", which it certainly could have. I'm sure many others have had different, more positive experiences with Before & After, but would I recommend them? No. Overall: 2/5. Service requested: Bridal Consultation and Bridal Up-Do day-of. Price: N/A. I did not receive the service. (Explanation below) Original quote with original artist was $75 for the bridal consultation, $100 for the day-of hair up-do traveling to my location in the area. Depending on the route, it is less than 4 miles away from my venue. For bridal hair pricing, IF the service was provided, I would rate the pricing to be 5/5. However I did not ask what the pricing would be for the current 2023 year with a current stylist at the salon. Technology/Business Infrastructure: 0/5. I made an appointment with Before & After Hair Design, and had 3-4 subsequent, multiple phone calls with the receptionist, sometime between Oct 2022 through Feb 2023 for the service requested to be carried out on Oct 2023. This was booked well a year in advance, re-confirmed multiple times and changed the requested service time twice, and on the first phone call I asked if a CC # was required to confirm the reservation, to which I was told 'No'. Long story short, when I showed up for my consultation at 1:00pm, upon entering, having the receptionist ask me what I was there for, what my appointment time was, what my name was, I immediately had the feeling that the establishment didn't know why I was there. Lo and behold, they didn't have my reservations I had made for my wedding day. They stated their system glitched, or needed to reset, or had some technical difficulties that caused it to reset so, in their words, "lost all reservations and every customer who walked through those doors was a 'new customer'." Was there no backup to all the reservations that were in the system, either digital or analog/physical? Was there no log to keep stylist/customer assignment or reservation times as a back-up? Is this always going to be a problem if the system unintentionally goes kaput, or needs a manual refresh? This rating ties in procedural compliance/training, or customer standards. Explained below. Procedural Compliance/Training and/or Customer Standards: 0/5. They told me the stylist who was possibly assigned to my two appointments no longer worked there and had not worked there for a while. As a customer, it was confounding to me that when a stylist departed, they didn't make it a point to review a log of all the appointments still attached to that stylist associated with the salon. Do they not review or notify customers of stylists who departed? Second, I didn't appreciate a stylist trying to slightly hint at, or turn on me, whether I called the correct establishment or not, because the facility did not normally send stylists to on-site locations for their services. That in and of itself is perfectly fine, and within their prerogative to do. However, I've spoke with this same establishment at least 3-4 separate occasions confirming this appointment, and regardless whether it was a receptionist or stylist, the person answering the phone in the moment becomes the representative of the salon. Do they not clarify the standards or proper procedures to who they hire or who makes appointments? Customer Service: 4/5. I proceeded to sit in the store while they figured out 'how this could have happened'. I was appreciative of the stylists present at the store reaching out to previously-departed and/or off-duty stylists to see if anyone else would be able to cover for my missed consultation and wedding day. I was on a time crunch since my rehearsal was at 4:00pm, my appointment was at 1:00pm, and had been sitting there for at least 45 minutes already. They eventually found one stylist named Lauren Burnett who possibly had time for a bridal consultation but I would've had to travel for 20 minutes there and ~40 minutes back, which wouldn't have worked with the time crunch. I spent another 30 minutes waiting for a phone call back for Lauren to confirm she could do the wedding day but not the trial. I was now left with no option to confirm what I'd like my hair to look like the day before, no ability to meet my stylist beforehand, and the previous quote I was given during the initial 3x phone calls was now null and void and left with a higher quote. We were offered water in the hour+ we sat there amongst the confusion. I also appreciated another receptionist offering up her own photos/experiences with Lauren so I could get a preview of some of her work. Did the eventual problem get solved? Partially. I had no consultation but I had a stylist for my wedding day. Lauren herself was absolutely wonderful. She has not worked at the salon for over many years and is no longer associated with the salon.

The salon itself was beautifully decorated, with a modern and stylish touch that exuded elegance and sophistication. The attention to detail in every corner was impeccable, creating a space that was not only aesthetically pleasing but also comfortable to relax in during my hair transformation. The staff at Fabulous Hair Salon were truly exceptional. Each member of the team was not only highly skilled but also incredibly passionate about their craft. They listened attentively to my desires and concerns, taking the time to understand exactly what I wanted. Their expertise and professionalism were evident in every step of the process.

I was a walk in with white/grey hair. I hadn't had it cut in a while and wasn't sure about the cut or color. Morgan took her time talking to me and figuring out what I might like. Will definitely return.

Had a wonderful experience at Before and After. Morgan did an incredible job with my highlights and at a very reasonable price. I will be going back!!

Just got done with my hair appt. Brianne was great!! My cut looks great and she took her time and made sure I was getting what I wanted. Clean salon, staff was very nice and not pushy trying to add on. Highly recommend!
