Aorist Salon in Kansas City, MO

I don't even know where to start... I booked an appointment with Kayla (the owner) after getting a bad haircut at another salon. When looking for a new stylist, I saw Aorist was advertising $30 haircuts for women, and I liked Kayla's photos so I reached out to her via email to book my appointment.

I spent about 2 hours at the salon which included a consultation, wash, and cut. After she was finished, I was not satisfied with my haircut. I felt that it did not look like my reference photo, or what I had explained that I wanted, which was a chin-length bob that I could curl the ends under my chin. Since I was coming in with a bad haircut, I was trying to be more understanding of the way she cut it, and thought it may look better after I got home and played with it myself.... it didn't.
It was very very short and not what I asked for.

Additionally, I was charged $200 for the service. I paid it at first, thinking maybe there was some sort of misunderstanding because I was under the impression that my haircut would be $30, per their advertising and the prices listed on their website.

When I got back into the parking lot, I checked my emails, Aorist's website, and their Instagram posts to figure out why I was charged so much for just a haircut. There was nothing online or in my emails that would suggest that this service should have cost more than $30, so I went back inside to ask Kayla to break down the pricing to me.
She immediately was defensive and said that I got an email saying that my service would be $200... it doesn't say that in the email. She also said that since she is the owner and has 17 years of experience, her rates are higher than the other stylists, who have 1-2 years experience.
I completely understand that rates vary from stylist to stylist, but this was not advertised or communicated to me prior to my haircut. The haircut that I got would not suggest that Kayla has 17 years of experience, nor would the way that she handled the situation.
She offered to refund me my tip ($10) and give me 20% off next time... why would I want to come back? She also said that her normal hourly rate for returning clients is $125, which is also not advertised anywhere.
DO NOT support Kayla or her salon. It is a scam and her actions were fraud.

Ashley did an incredible job. I felt so welcomed right from the start with the receptionist. Ashley made me feel heard even though I didn't have any exact instruction. I left your salon feeling so new and refreshed. Can't wait to come back for my trim in December! Thank you so much!

I took my daughter here for a haircut. The owner, Kayla, did an amazing job making sure my daughter's expectations were met. Kayla made her feel very comfortable during the cut. Her hair is absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend.
