1213 Hair Studio in Richmond, VA

I love 1213 Hair Studio and I really do wish I had a better experience at the salon. I came in for a cut with Lindy and left devastated. Knowing she was a newer stylist, I didn't have terribly high expectations but I hoped for more because she worked at 1213, where they always do a fantastic job. I came in with a full head of long hair (image attached) and asked for layers with a short face framing piece (images attached). I understand she is a new stylist, but I would have appreciated a bit of honesty and discretion when it came to her level of experience. I showed her the pictures and she seemed positive she could get it done, but at the end it was obvious it wasn't anywhere near what I wanted. I wouldn't have minded her telling me at the beginning of the session that she couldn't do it and I would've happily scheduled with someone else, but instead I was met with a terrible cut at the end. I asked for a short face framing pice (which is what i got) but also got a layer going around my head the same length... basically a mullet. The rest of my hair was cut from that piece that at the most drastic angle ever. I knew something was off, but she said it was the way she styled the air that made it look the way it did. She attempted to fix it while i was there, but there was really no going back. When i only intended to get my layers freshened up and preserve as much length as I could, I left with about four inches cut from the front, a mushroom bob and uneven, i blended layers. I went home and tried to style it myself trying to give her the benefit of the doubt but felt so defeated at the end. Thankfully, Joy was able to see me today to "fix" the haircut, which i really appreciated. She mentioned taking a picture for educational purposes and I really hope it's useful. I appreciated that the salons had a "call us if you don't like it" policy, but feel so so devastated that I lost so much hair. I was told I had intimidating hair (thick and a lot of hair) which is upsetting because i left with the opposite. Joy had to thin out my hair from all angles which in turn cut down so much volume on the bottom and about four inches around my hair. As much as I appreciate the willingness to fix my hair, I wish i could receive a refund. My hair is no where near what I wanted and is a complete change to what I had before. My hair is so important to me as I tried to grow it out and take the best possible care of of to get it cut and dyed, but I'm left with no dye and missing half of my hair.

The space is so cool! Definitely very cute -- with great smelling shampoo by the way. The staff was super nice and Macie did an AMAZING job with my haircut. She had such carefulness making sure I knew what she was doing, and doing it masterfully. I love my haircut ! Also the blowout (with no extra charge) was awesome too. I hadn't been to a hair salon in Richmond yet, so I was nervous to try a new place; but I def recommend this one.

The salon is strangely spartan in decor feeling very bare. There is no atmosphere to the place, no camaraderie, it's almost eerily quiet. When booking, I was not informed my stylist was straight out of school and required supervision. A standard wash, cut and style took an hour and a half. I won't be going back.

I have such a great experience each time I visit 1213 Hair Studio! The establishment is clean, comfortable, and everything you'd want in a hair salon (vibes are immaculate). I've seen Courtney C for over a year and a half, and she consistently wows me with my haircut and color. I had not had much experience coloring my hair (and not much trust, honestly), but she made me feel very comfortable while she educated me on options that made sense for my lifestyle and budget. I couldn't recommend 1213 Hair Studio more!

Bianca is amazing!! She worked a miracle on my hair and helped me achieve this stunning blonde! My confidence is boosted after every appointment with her and I always leave with a big smile on my face! Worth every penny, every time!
