I've been a loyal Aveda customer for years and have always trusted the expertise of those who work with this company as well as the products themselves. I used to frequent the Zinke salon in Denver before it closed, and now I make the nearly 1 hr drive to the Boulder location to faithfully follow Caitlyn who is absolutely the best. She understands the color I'm looking for even as it changes ever-so-slightly seasonally and always guides me toward the perfect cut. I've never left unhappy after a hair day with Caitlyn!
Zinke Boulder is located on the second floor in the mall. It's easy to find, but parking is a little ways away. I don't mind now that I'm not pregnant, but be sure to add a few minutes before your appointment time to factor in that. This location has truly dedicated all of its space to the salon and less of a spa-like, "one with nature" atmosphere like that other Aveda salons. The check-in counter is no bigger than you'd find at a hostess stand, and there are only a handful of seats in the waiting area, which is really just a hallway to the bathroom. I had to stand to wait for my last appointment as all of the seats were full. I would like to think it's rare though that the waiting area is that full, and usually I never wait more than a few minutes for Caitlyn, so it's not a huge deal. The salon area is wide open with a very industrial feel. It doesn't affect my time there, but it's definitely different than any other Aveda I've been to. They have space for about 10-12 stations, but I usually only ever see about 5-6 other people at a time, so it's not too crowded. I do like their reclining chairs and flat board wash station. It's nice to not have to strain my neck on the sink bowl anymore as your head can lie flat. Why don't more places have this?!
On my first visit, we had a major hiccup where my appointment wasn't transferred from the Denver salon to the Boulder salon, so thankfully Caitlyn had a cancellation and was able to fit me in. I was supposed to receive a $50 credit which wasn't applied (this was caught by Caitlyn and fixed on my next visit). For the price I pay and the commute I now have, I wish it offered a little more comfort and customer service, but it's worth it for me to stay with Caitlyn as she really does a phenomenal job with my hair.
The front desk help is totally inept. They did not enter the correct appointment time into their schedule, even after I called to confirm. The front desk help were then rude and unaccommodating when we asked to shorten the service with the remaining 2.5 hrs left in the appointment. She and the stylist were fixated on the fact that no one had 5 mins to wash my daughter's highlights out and therefore needed to cancel. I then wrote the manager about our experience and she is yet to write back several days later. Another time they canceled on us right before Xmas with no appointment options.
I would however recommend Lauren as a stylist. She is lovely and provides great haircuts, color and service. Just not sure why any customer would pay such exorbitant prices for sloppy scheduling and terrible customer service. I will never go back.
It was my first time at this salon so I didn't know what to expect but they exceeded my expectations. It was so clean, they are so kind, so responsive through text leading up to my appointment. I love that they have appointments later in the evening too. Ray was one of the best stylists I've been to. She made sure I was happy with the length and was so cognizant of what I wanted. I can't wait to go back for the next cut.
Ariela (Ella), is one of the best stylists I've ever been to! If you are needing a blonde specialist or a balayage specialist she is your gal. Not only is she a great stylist and keeping up with all the trends, she has a heart of gold and is very attentive in her clients. I just had the Global keratin treatment done. The stylist applied the chemical very sparingly to my hair. My roots are what needed the most attention as I had a lot of new growth and hadn't had keratin treatment done in over a year given covid, and that's where she applied it to the least. The very top of my hair was practically untouched. She started applying it at least a 4 inches from the root. When I asked her about applying it to the root, she said the solution would creep up to the top as she combed it through. This hasn't been my experience before when getting keratin treatments. Usually, the stylist applies it to the root. Long story short, I left there with the same problem I walked in with...my roots are still in the same condition.
