Zen Salon in Appleton, WI

I wanted to try a new salon for a massage so I used a coupon offered by Zen Salon in Appleton. I have had one other massage during this pandemic at a different salon so I was comfortable with the Covid safety protocols. When I arrived everyone had on a mask in the waiting/boutique area. I met Tanya and had an average massage (meaning I could tell she was new at this profession but it was fine), all the while assuming she was wearing a mask. At the end of my massage and she was leaving the room, I opened my eyes and discovered she had no mask on. After I dressed, I went to the counter to pay and shared my distress about this. Tanya apologized several times and said "they" had even given her one that she was to wear. An employee next to her said "well we aren't perfect"! There was a third woman who I assumed to be the owner, never acknowledged my feelings or apologized or tried to make it right. I replied "we are in a pandemic, what do you mean you forgot???" and "how do I know if you are safe or sick?" They all just shrugged. I said please do not do this to any other customer ever. They all were uncomfortable and unprofessional and I left feeling sad about my whole experience. I was sad that I hadn't asked and made certain I was safe. For that, I take full responsibility. But Zen's lack of care for the customer says a lot about this place and I will never go back, nor recommend it.

I'm leaving this review intending that it will help people go into this salon with fair expectations. I've gotten to the point with Zen that it's just sort of a joke within my family. First of all, if you call Zen, 100% no one is going to answer the phone. You can leave a message and there is about a 50% chance that they will call you back, and if they do it will be hours/days later. When you walk into Zen there will be no one at the counter to help you so you will wait in one of the very very worn chairs in the front. At some point someone will see you. Half of the times I've been there has been a mistake with my appointment. My BEST advice to you. Do not get your nails done here- it's trash. I have been a few times for a massage because with a Groupon it's so cheap. You totally get what you pay for here- horrible, I mean horrible customer service. Incredibly unprofessional employees who talk about other customers and have no idea what's going on at the salon or who's booked when. I almost feel bad for the salon because it's such a s*** show. The only reason I continue to go is because the actual massages I have gotten (once I can finally get an appointment and make it through the dreaded reception process) are good. But please, put your expectations on the floor going into this or you will probably be disappointed.

Terrible experiences all that way around. Have been arguing with the owner for months and they don't do anything but blame me that her receptionist messed up on my payment transactions. This was the second time this happened. I would highly recommend NOT going here. If the way the owners argued with me is any induction of how the business is run I'm not shocked it's so terrible. I've gotten many massages here and any one is was decent only stayed there for less than a year.

Lori has stolen not only from me, but also about 50 plus former employees. Please C-CAP who you go to, you would be surprised what you find. My husband and I went into her workplace to work out the situation, after I spoke with a lawyer. He suggested to go in and work it out. Lori refused to cooperate. Please support the women she has taken advantage of and manipulated by not supporting her business. Wage theft is way to common and it needs to stop. Wage Theft The phrase "wage theft" generally refers to employees being denied full compensation for their work under the law. Often, low-wage and immigrant workers are victims of wage theft and are denied meal breaks, overtime pay and minimum wage, and are forced to work off the clock without pay. It is illegal to not pay or to underpay workers their wages. Wage theft is getting more attention as it is a growing problem. Wage theft can occur when workers are not paid, underpaid or misclassified as independent contractors.

I saw an ad on facebook, promoting their new worker and had a discount to get a pedicure for $10. I obviously took the offer and made an appointment. I showed up, and waited a good 5 minutes to even be talked to, and then sat down and got my nails done. The girl was very nice and did a great job. The girl doing my nails, explained that she was also gonna do manicures, and so she took down my phone number to call when she had started doing manicures. A week or so later, I see the ad on facebook for the manicures, but never got a call. I still decided to make an appointment. My first was scheduled for July 10th at 2:30, and was scheduling with Lori(the owner) on messenger. I then get a text, the next day, the day of my appointment, saying the girl called in sick. Understandable but annoying with my work schedule. Lori apologized and I rescheduled for July 16th at 10am. Everything seems like it's going well, right? Wrong. I show up for my appointment. Sat in the waiting room for 15+ minutes before even getting talked to by Lori. She then goes in the back to get the lady to do my nails. She comes back after 5 minutes, and explains that the lady wasn't there today either. She then apologized and said "you know how teenagers are with attendance!" which i thought was very rude, saying to a customer about an employee. She then took down my name and phone number again, and said she would call me within a day or 2 and give me a free mani-pedi. I agreed and then went home. A few days later, never got a call back. I thought, maybe they were busy, so I waited a few more. I never heard anything. I ended up calling twice in separate days and got sent to the voicemail with a full mailbox. I found Lori to be very rude and unprofessional, and I will not be back.
