Yvelisse Salon in Jamaica, NY

I needed my hair done today (A weekday) . So yesterday I went and walked around until I found what I thought was a reputable stylist. I spoke with her extensively (ok, at least 5 minutes) about how important time is to me and being punctual is a must. She said she understood and she would be doing my hair personally, so no worries. I made an appointment for 9 am and held the space with a $100 deposit. Soo..this morning the train schedule is a little bit off and I realize I won't get there exactly at 9 but around 9:15. I then call and text the salon, apologize and let them know. I get to the salon and Noone is there to do my hair. This was the point of the leg work the day before. The receptionist was a great young lady and was extremely classy during the entire debacle. At 9:40, the woman who is braiding my hair before I get the sew-in finally arrives. I can tell that she is a new braider because she is mega slow. I speak to the receptionist and another woman comes over to do the braiding. There is still no sign of the stylist. Around 10:15, my hair is all braided. Still no stylist. I kid you not, the stylist sashays in at 10:45, proceeds to say her hellos , doesn't Apologize and tries to be snippy with me asking if I still want my hair done. At this point, remember I have already paid her a deposit. She says to me why are you upset? I spoke to the receptionist, she started on your hair at 9:40. Now remember , my appointment was at 9 and it was impacted by me being 15 minutes late when Noone was around until 9:40. The stylist finally started doing my hair. It looks fine, but probably won't last long. For the way she behaved, you would have thought she would at least apologize , offer a discount or both but no. She finished and let the other woman flat iron my hair. She said nothing at all. I did leave a tip for the braider and the receptionist cus my Momma didn't raise me to treat people poorly. I said all this to warn others and I will be posting this review on Yelp and anywhere else I can. The name of the salon is now called Karmi Beauty on Jamaica Avenue. You can tell that I never write reviews , so I must be pretty annoyed.

I've been coming here over two years under the old management and their work was amazing. Under the new management the work is similar to an amateur. I paid for a weave and in a week it needed to be reinstalled. The brains were uneven,there was a bump in my head,and the parts were crooked. Conversations between the receptionist and new owner was unprofessional- complaining and discussing disgruntled employees. I don't recommend going to KARMI for a weave.

I went back to this salon a dress months ago to get cornrows put in for my crochet braids. I decided to give the shop another chance because the expertise and service in nearby shops is substandard. This shop is now under new management which was apparent when I walked in. I was greeted with a smile by the new owner, Karmi, whom the shop is now named after. Two years ago when I asked if someone knew how to do cornrows only one person knew what I was talking about, lol. But now there are several stylists who braid and install crochet sets, weaves and more. My cornrows looked amazing, edges laid and a smile was on my face. I will be back soon!

I went in there to correct my bleach-damaged hair. My hair was so bad it was falling out. Morena was my stylist and my savior. She did her thang! I left pleased and more educated on hair care than when I went it. I see a lot of bad reviews but don't sleep on those women. I watched them all work their magic and they're not rookies. They deal with all hair types, including braiding, extensions, and wigs. I've seen women wak in a there hot mess and come out looking like a brand new person. So I decided to go back to Morena because I don't trust many people with my mane and although her goal was to save the length ( not a lot of artists do) I decided to get a fresh start and do a pixie cut. To my surprise, she did a great job! She understood what I wanted and wasn't afraid to give me her humble opinion. I'm sticking with my girl because she knows my hair!

Being that I'm a black girl and we have different scalp from Spanish people. I understand all Spanish people blow out hair with very hot heat. But I get a lot of scabs. I went to get my hair blow the and flat ironed I paid $55, which is over charge, It should of been $35 or $40, $55 is a little dramatic. Since the causes are me getting a bunch of scabs in my hair I feel like I should only get charge $40/$35.
