Very kind people and did a very nice job. I was fearful after twenty years with the same stylist but Sue did well. It takes a few times going of course, very pleased due to the time spent to make sure i was happy. Highly recommend!
As it goes in baseball, three strikes and you're out! Strike 1 - I first tried the place 10 years ago. Eunice cut my hair the first time and the haircut was OK. The second time they had a new younger woman from Korea try to cut my hair, but she couldn't understand English very well and messed up my haircut. She cut off a section of hair I specifically told her not to cut off. Eunice finished the haircut offered to fix it if I came back in a few weeks. But you can't put back hair once it gets cut off by mistake. I gave them one more try, and even though I had an appointment and was sitting there waiting, they took two young Korean guys who walked after me first, asking me to wait. So, I left and did not return. Strike 2 - I came back when Covid hit in 2020 since all the other shops in Gainesville had closed. Initially I was impressed as they were very serious about disinfecting everything. Went back to Eunice and again the first haircut was OK. But each succeeding haircut was worse. You would expect as you get to know the customer better, the haircuts would improve, but the opposite happened. Every time I came in, I had to explain how I wanted my hair done (which never changes), kinda like Deja Vu all over again. Strike 3 - Not happy with Eunice, I switched to Sue the other Head Stylist listed on their website. I avoided her initially because she appeared young, and I've found younger hair stylists tend to not know how to cut hair in older styles for older men. Anyway, to my surprise the first haircut was excellent, and I later found later that Sue was older than she looked. She listened to what I wanted done and did a nice job. Unfortunately, each succeeding haircut since the first has gotten a bit worse, with Sue spending less and less time cutting my hair. And, like Eunice, each time I came in, she did not remember how I get my hair cut so each haircut ended up like her first try. She also started not really communicating with me, just making noises like um, uh huh, when I said anything. The last haircut was the worst, I was out in 15 minutes which included her taking two phone calls and talking to someone at the front desk. I wouldn't have cared about the interruptions if she had spent anything close to the 30 minutes cutting my hair that they say my appointment is for. But in reality, she only spent about 10 minutes cutting my hair, pretty much leaving the front the way it was. So, I had to trim some hair from the front and left side myself when I got home. With all the other glowing reviews, I suspect they spend more time and effort on pricier hair stylings and colorings that women have done. And they seem to do well for men who get the standard short haircuts that are in style today. But for me, I'll just have to go somewhere else in the future.
This place is the best one around here. They will listening of what you really want and they will tell you the truth if it's okay with your hairs or not. I have been their client over 12 years so far with Eunice. Love it ;)

I am 57 years old and have traveled around the world. I have never in my life left a bad review for a business - anywhere at any time. My daughter just got her hair cut and colored at U&G hair salon. My daughter is having a difficult time in her life right now, and treated herself to a new hairdo as a way trying to feel better. She told the stylist that she did not want her hair to be cut beyond a certain point. She repeatedly asked the stylist to not cut her hair that short. The stylist, in her obvious infinite knowledge of my daughter's likes and dislikes, told her "don't worry, it'll look good" and cut her hair off FIVE INCHES shorter than she specified! My daughter spent $160.00 on a haircut and a color that she is now crying her eyes out about. I know that doesn't sound like a big deal to most people, but my daughter has NEVER cried over something as trivial as a haircut. The bad haircut is not the point. The point is - the stylist completely ignored her, felt that she knew what was better for my daughter - than my daughter did .... and did what SHE wanted with her hair. Now the whole idea of treating herself to feel better is completely down the drain. Her hair has made her feel worse about herself. She is still crying. I called to speak to a manager and was told there was no manager. I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was told there was no supervisor. I got hung up on. I called back, asked to speak to a supervisor again. At that time she asked for my information and said she could help me. I told her what was wrong, I told her how upset my daughter is, and I told her that I want my daughters money refunded. At which time she told me I was "very bad, I was bad" and she "cannot". She hung up on me again! So... for the first time in my life, I am happy to completely SAVAGE a business. They were terrible. They did not do what they were asked to do. They did what they wanted to do - not what the customer wanted. And then, when I complained and told them I wanted her money back I was hung up on twice and told " you are bad" , "you are very bad". DO NOT go to this place!!!! I don't think these people should be allowed to touch someone's head. Honestly? If I thought it would do any good, I would SUE THIS WOMAN for emotionally distressing my daughter. I'm sorry if I sound petty .... but if you could see how upset my daughter is, you would understand why I'm so upset. I give U&G a NEGATIVE TEN rating! Stay away!!!!
